Alright guys, someone cross threaded a wheel nut before I owned the car and it's f@&#ed basically. Has anyone had any experience with helicoil or have they just replaced the hub?

should be absolutely fine, thread lock the helicoil into the hub to stop it wanting to turn through with the bolt

Even if I've already tried drilling the stuck nut out?

not sure what you've actually done here - you've got a bolt stuck cross threaded in your hub, or ...

Had a nut stuck in and cross threaded. Tried to use an extractor set to get it out which failed and it's just a messed up hole in the hub now, still narrower than the original wheel nut

when you say nut, you mean bolt right?

get some pics up and maybe more guidance can be offered

how bad have you messed the hub up? is the remaining bolt/thread flush with the hub?

ok, so helicoil is exceptional stuff.

even if you have slightly damaged the area through drilling.

you will need to drill and tap the hole to accept the new helicoil, and once in, is even stronger than just a standard tapped hole. It will be absolutely fine, as long as you can get a good clean tap on the new size hole you may have to drill for the heli.

Just remember to remove the tang after you have installed the heli, As this can lead to the last coil deforming and trapping the bolt.
