Phase 1 is the mark 1 306 (1993-1996/7) phase 2 (1997-1999) restyled front end/ and exterior trims and some new gizmos!
Your phase 2 key and ignition barrel are linked with your factory fit immobiliser and the key has a little black chip inside the remote casing that the barrel reads when you put the key into the barrel therefore allowing the car to start! Phase 1 cars have a keypad immobiliser that is not linked to the key or barrel but instead hard wired into the car!
The phase 2 barrel and key may still work in the ph1 if you figure out which is which and maybe you can ignore the 3rd connector but def not in the reverse scenario!
Phase 1 anything is becoming thin on the ground now so probs best to ask an autospark if it will fit and work but good luck anyway!
Further to this for you or anyone else reading this later with a replacement key casing question, if you are planning to switch your key casing for another casing in better condition ie switching just the blade then please remember to switch the little BLACK microchip found near the keying hoop ( NOT THE LARGE REMOTE BUTTON CHIP WITH MOUNTED BATTERY) or you will just kill your battery with no chance of your car starting up!
VERY frustrating! Then you get told your an idiot for not swapping the chip!

Do you have a phase 1 or phase2?
Obvs you have a phase 2 after rereading your first post here so I doubt it!
Maybe the moderators can or should move this to the elecs/ ice thread or whichever is most appropriate where you will pick up more replies maybe!
