Is there anyone here run with 2.0 8V Turbo?
#1
Hi everyone,

Currently, My another PUG (406) Engine are not so good as High mileage, Oil burner, Poor compression and also I need more Power.

Is there anyone here have the experience with 2.0 8V Turbo Engine ?

how about that engine when compare to 2.0 l 16V XU10J4R about the performance ?

and can it be compareable to Standard Gti6 ?

Any comments are welcome.

I'm deciding for the new engine swap.

Thank you.

Correct, The 8V Turbo standard had around 139 to 150 Hp

The standard 406 RFV XU10J4R had 132 Hp

I decided to swap from RFV 16V to RGX 8V Turbo for my 406

Today I just have a new engine observation at my local garage for PUG & Citroen. (Not far away from my home)

This engine was took off from Citroen XM and low Mileage due to previous owner have many cars and he worried about the spare part and the local garage in his area have no experience about this engine. So. He swapped to the RFV XU10J4R instead of this Turbo 8V.

Form the roughly observed, The engine was in good condition Oil cooler pipe still good, All W/H, ECU and all component were still available includind Stock intercooler.

Here's some PIC.

Nobody swaps them because they are so under powered compared to the standard GTi6 lump which is a peach of an engine anyway. The 132bhp your lump has is less even than the standard 16v XSi and I bet it doesn't have as nice a spread of power.

They are good lumps when tuned, I used to work with a guy allegedly running 350bhp on one in a 406 that still had standard internals and bolt on upgrades but you could get most of that with a bolt on supercharger kit on a GTi6 lump.

Hi,
I've got experience with the xu10j2te 2.0 8v turbo and I think its a great engine even in standard form well at least in my 205. Just a remap can see you 200-210 BHP...

They aren't bad, not that outright powerful but they have a lovely chunk of midrange torque for overtaking. From what I've heard they don't have much tuning potential because the head is supposedly quite restrictive. Was talking about this at Pugfest, my mates dad has a Xanta Activa with that engine and it's a great drive.

The limiting factor on them is the manifolds, turbo and management (and a hotter cam doesn't go amiss either).

Some of the crazy Dutch lot have seen over 300hp on a standard engine with bolt ons and management.

In standard trim they're not a great engine though IMO, although the lazy torquey nature does broadly suit the 406/Xantia/XM/605's that they were originally found in. I'm far from convinced about them in a 205 or the like mind you, but that's hardly surprising as I like engines to rev and the 2.0 Turbo is more akin to driving a diesel in nature (but with horrendous fuel economy)

Hi, have your msg but cant reply to it yet. The 306 was only running standard ecu etc. The factory 406 intercooler and the complete HDI exhaust. The boost was raised a bit too the factory ecu limit which ive been told is 182bhp.
