Hi from a Renault geek

Hi all.. recently got an old heap of a 306 XSI, it's got a GTI6 engine. Bodywork is very rough and it had no carpet when I got it.

I've stripped the interior leaving the front seats and dash, put a new droplink on it and I've bought a GTI6 manifold off eBay today.

The boy told me it had the GTI rear brake setup and it needs handbrake cables so I went and bought the cables for a gti. However looking at it quickly I don't think it's the correct cables.

Is there another upgrade for an xsi?

I've got idea about these cars as I'm into my renaults so ill be needing a bit of help along the way, but the plan is to get it tidied up, through an MOT then get a set of buckets etc and use it as a toy through summer.

Thanks.

all the rear brakes should be the same. Its either cables or drums. There are no different callipers or disc sizes for the rear.

Cables are different between drums and discs though so it may be you've been given the wrong cables.

Its got discs on the rear..wasn't sure if the xsi had drums as standard or if they were all the same setup. Should be right with the cables i have then?

Here's some old cars if you fancy a look, first car was a silver 1.2 clio. Lowered it and stuck a set of black multiespokes and drove that for a year before buying my silver 172. No photos of the 1.2 on my phone sorry :p

Silver clio was good fun, was pretty rough when I got it but sorted it out, thrashed it for a year then bought my megane. Had the 106 for 2 weeks just before I got the megane but it was rotten so had the welding done then punted it.

Megane was a really good car, but I always felt the clio was faster and more fun on the back roads, I missed the revs etc so Pxd it for the ITBd 172 cup, it was a properly sorted car, and very fast. Alot faster than the megane. On par with my brothers 312bhp imprezza and quicker than a mk2 FRS up until about 125mph. So much fun! Ended up selling it when I got a 6 month ban last year. It got broken for parts and is now in a scrapyard somewhere.

So, I'm into my 6th french car with the XSI/6. Hopefully get it all sorted out and on the road for nipping about in summer Smile

Thanks hanny74. I haven't had a chance to get a look at the handbrake cables again.

Are the GTI and XSI cables different?

My manifold arrived last night so I'm going to get that fitted tonight!
