F***ING WIPERS
#1
Cant believe it just spent ages swapping out the wiper motor and mechanism on my W reg 1.4 306 meridian for one off my other 1.4  that i know works fine, only for the bleedin thing to do the same as the one i took off.

the problem i have is it only works in two of the four positions, so it has no intermittent or fast wipe speed. the first constant wipe works but when you cancelle it stops were ever it is on the screen, unless you hold the arm down on the single wipe the wipers stop dead when you let go.

any one got any idea?

both cars same model, engine size, one is a W reg the other is  a Y reg , the W reg has the rain censors in the screen  the other does not.

They should both be rain sensor models, unless one is really pov spec, like 'L'.

That's not the typical motor issue though, I would say its an earth or stalk problem.

Nope it's because one was sensor the other wasn't. It's strange - I've got the same issue using a zx wiper with my phase 3 loom (with sensor). I just live with it after trying to fix it for ages.

He said both motors caused the same issue on his car with a sensor though!?

The stalks and motors are the same afaik, if those have been changed and the relays checked, it'll be the rain sensor.

After ripping apart a ph3 loom and getting headaches looking at diagrams...
The sensor controls a LOT! Even motor position.
Stupidly overcomplex imo but there we go

(and fitting a NON auto stalk DOES NOT work!)

Thanks for posting those Cully, should be able to figure out hoe to retrofit the standard system into the auto wiring, most of it on Adam's car is hacked up already.

I did try a standard stalk and it gave exactly the same symptoms, the zx motor is wired exactly the same as a 306 which itself uses the same motor on every variant, just a different plug and linakge.
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

I don't think it will be, as far as I could tell all the wiring through the bulkhead is the same, so just the stuff behind the dash is needed, I'll get to a breakers soon and grab a dash loom.

had another look today and tried a new stalk but problem still there can some one tell me were the relays for the front wiper is located?
Looking at both cars the one that works the plastic casing around the mirror stalk is much bigger and comes up to the the edge of the headliner and i guess the the wires for the censor comes down from there. the one that dont work does not come up that far so tried to take the interior light out to see if the wires were in there but could not get it out so gave up was getting cold a that point.

was having a look today and found a cable with plug on it tucked up inside the headliner so looks like it has had the rain censor is there an easy way to remove the plastic cover on the windscreen to have a look inside to see if the other parts are there ?

just been out took the mirror off and there is no censor on the screen then had a thought so went to my other car took the mirror off and unplugged the rain censor turned the wipers on and it did the same as the other car. so if i get another censor it should all work properly jobs a goodin

Do you have the gap on the screen for the sensor? Sounds like someone fitted a non-auto style windscreen!!

If the screen had a sensor on in the past, there should be two metal tabs bonded on the screen that the sensor fixes to

It's not a auto wiper/heat reflective screen then Sad
It's either had a replacement (wrong) screen or its never had auto wipers. Have a look at the screen stamp bottom drivers corner or next to the mirror. If it's a pug/Saint Gobain screen, chances are it never had auto wipers
