Help Please got a leak :(
#1
Hey all,

Wondering if anyone can help. If found a leak coming from what I believe to be part of the rotary head of pump, ( cast bit on right hand side ) it looks as if its coming from the bottom far part where injector line bolts onto if that makes sense. not entirely sure what the part is call or how its sealed or if its just gathering here hard to tell.

Any help or input appreciated

It looks like it is leaking from where the bolt screws into the head.. Could try tightening it up?

Funnily enough I currently have a head on my desk in pieces...

Looking at it, the bolts seem to just be threaded into the head. I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me Tongue

I can't see any other places from which a leak could arise.

Thats a delivery nozel IIRC.

No idea why its leaking there. Could it not be leaking from above and dripping down. maybe try a bit of black (fuel proof) silicone and see how long that holds for.

Have you tried loosening the injector line off and then tightening the delivery valve? If you try and tighten it with the injector line still tight it wont budge at all! Smile

it doesn't seem to be from above unless i'm not looking properly. Will have another check and get a second opinion tomorrow. will clean it up and have another look.
just seems strange how its collecting there and dripping off pump

Ahh Dan - me having a blonde moment there will give that a whirl tomoz too cheers bud

Right guys found where the leak is coming from when pump is hot and doing roughly 5-10mpg Sad it seems to be coming from the large triangular shaped nut on pump head.

Does anyone had a socket for this or know how else to get this nut off to reseal

Many thanks

Can you find a pic of a head and arrow the exact bit thats leaking? As bit tricky for us to see whats going on..

Possible places in order of likelyhood ness are:

Leaking delivery valve (they seat on a copper washer, try tightening them as Dan said first, if not replace copper washer)

Leaking stop solenoid (therefore runs down and drips lower down)

Leaking head seal (not in your case as wouldnt be dripping where it is

And I guess its possible for the timing / inspection bung to be leaking in the center of the delivery valves, but havent seen that happen before... if not theres an o ring seal on it, so just back bolt out, replace the seal, and put back, could try tightening it a bit first just incase.

Is it leaking from the bolt arrowed in the photo below? Thats the only bolt I can think of as a 'triangle bolt'....

If so, the best way I found to loosen/tighten them is by getting a 1/2" imperial socket which is 12 sided (not 6 sided) and then gently hammer it onto the bolt, it should go on fairly easily and will be enough to nip it up, theyre not very tight normally tbh.

Edit, just to clarify incase you dont know....

6 sided socket:

12 sided socket:

Thanks for replies guys,

It is the big timing bung as Darren mentioned just whipped it to the diesel specialist few streets up from work this morning. hes given me a o ring and new copper seals for delivery valve free Smile and the special tool for the big triangle nut for a few days. he said the same as you darren hes only ever seen one or two leak in his 15 years working on pumps. But hopefully will have this fixed tonight and get my mpg back Smile then time for more tuning Smile

Thanks again

CJ
