stainless steel exhausts
#1
right lads, where is the best place to buy a decent performance exhaust from?
My HDIs back box I think is about to be an mot failure, so I am after a stainless steel system.  I am looking at mongoose systems but is there any others? Piper do a back box but not the full system.

I have heard great things about LongLife exhausts. Especially the one in Worcester as the welding is apparently really good. Might be worth seeing what other longlife places are like Smile

Longlife is a franchise, some people have had pretty crap results, so worth getting a local recommendation imo.

have mongoose stopped making things for the 306? all I want is a system that's off the shelf really. We don't really have a exhaust specialist in the sunderland area, the one in newcastle is always fully booked!

Longlife has been very good and reasonable value for me but like Poodle says, they are a franchise. That said, i think Longlife take a lot more care over their franchisees unlike power flow. I rarely hear properly bad things about Longlife but power flow.....

It's a shame that "Longlife" and "Powerflow" is pretty much just a name on the steel you buy, it's down to the guy who's bending and making it as to whether it's any good in terms of performance and how it sounds...

Longlife from memory does use better quality stainless than the others, although frankly, a mild exhaust will last you 10 years, so any sort of Stainless will last you a stupid amount of time..

A good quality mild steel system might last many years, but a cheap pattern system certainly won't.

As a good example, the new mid-section on my last 306 HDi barely lasted two years before it rotted out and broke off near the backbox join in the usual place. Can't remember the brand, but it wasn't Bosal, Arvin or Walker.

Klarius (sp?) systems aren't much better - had one of their backboxes on an old 205 and after one winter where the car wasn't used that much, it already looks like it had been submerged in the sea with rusted welds and large patches of surface rust all over it. The genuine OE (Ecia) backbox that's currently on there still looks very good after two years for comparison as does the Bosal center section.

A couple of my friends have Longlife systems from your local branch in Bicester and both had them fail within a few months. The stainless itself has been fine, but the silencer internals have been very poor and trying to get them to fix it under warranty was far more grief than it should have been - they eventually repaired both although I believe one (possibly both) have subsequently failed again.
