Just bought a 1996 Xsi, was told by the previous owner that it had replacement clocks a few years back. When I turn the car off the revs drop to 500rpm, and the fuel gauge is constantly stuck at a quarter of a tank. Fuel light comes on when it hits a quarter. Put 20 quid in, had to smash the top of the dash to get the needle to move. Do these clocks need changing again?

They have probably been apart and the needles have been pushed on too far. Take them out, remove the clear plastic and use two small spoons to lift the needles from the printed face a tiny bit so they can move freely.

check the plugs on the back too. Although it probably is what Niall has said. be careful with all the clips as the ones on the clear front are easy to snap!
