Noises!
#1
Hi everyone.
This is a bit of a funny topic as the best way to describe it is that when im in 3rd or 4th gear and i take off the throttle and let the car slow down its sounds like a airplane landing or taking off!! Ive had a few guesses from people on facebook to what it might be but i really have no idea!
Ive got a hdi btw.
Thanks

A bearing somewhere. Its fairly common though, particularly the diff bearing. If its just a noise I'd leave it until you can feel it tbh, I haven't had a 306 with a silent gearbox so far lol.

Have you checked the oil level?
Has it got the right oil in it?

I be checking both those things before getting the box off!

Is it a more of a whine or a roar!?
Wishes for more power...

Do hdi's not normally have a whiny gearbox? Mines had an so did a few others I know, does it disappear when you put the clutch in?

Yeah could be released bearing on clutch if it goes away when you dip the clutch

Clutch shouldn't make a difference, its the diff bearing, and yes they all do it these days lol.

If theres a difference with the clutch, its likely to be release bearing....I wouldn't leave that though, they can create a mess when they finally fail...

Hi Guys
Finally after a mind numbing process of trying to discover this noise it is now gone :-)
After spending nearly 400 for the box to be re-furbed which i was told was the problem, then to have the box come back and the noise was still there but a lot louder!!
To find out from a different garage that it was a bloody wheel bearing all along!!
Not a very happy situation but all sorted now and running as silent as a mouse.
