Might be useful for someone one day:
1)to check the clearances you need to take the rocker cover and baffle plate
off,revealing the rocker assemblies.
2)Take off the cambelt cover. You will be ale to see a big nut in the
camshaft pulley. You can attach a socket and bar to this and use it to turn
over the engine. To make this easier, take the spark plugs out first to let
out the compression as you turn the engine over
3)with some feeler gauges, check the gap between the rocker and valve when
the following valves are open.(Open each listed valve in turn by cranking
the engien with the socket and bar,and noting when the relevant valve is
fully open: look at the cam and you will see when it has hit the highest
point on the lobe,if you know what I mean)
Valve open Check valve clearances on...
Cyl. 1 exhaust cyl 3 inlet,cyl.4 exhaust
Cyl. 3 exhaust cyl 4 inlet,cyl 2 exhaust
Cyl. 4 exhaust cyl 2 inlet,cyl 1 exhaust
Cyl. 2 exhaust cyl 1 inlet,cyl 3 exhaust
If you forget what valves you checked halfway through, just remember that
each valve checking sequence follows the firing order,1-3-4-2
4) if any clearances are out, loosen the adjusting screw locknut and
tighten/loosen the screw. Then tighten the locking nut back up while holding
the screw steady.
Once done,reassemble.
Oh aye the valve clearances are as follows!
Inlet 0.2mm
exhaust 0.4mm
