Diesel leak
#1
Hi everyone, i'm wondering if anyone can help locate where the fuel is leaking from. I had a mechanic check it over and he couldnt find anything. It happens slowly over time so its hard to spot, here are some pics

I would suspect injector leak off system...............clean off all leaked fuel and run engine with the cover off and bonnet open so that you may find the leak......its covered the whole top of the engine so must be fairly bigish and wide to cover that area.....the leak off pipes are above that area so could be them.............else fule is sprayed from somewhere and drips down off the eng cover??

I cleaned it all up and couldn't see anything obvious, neither did the mechanic. The amount of diesel you see there takes about 500+ miles to get to that level. I just wondered if it were a common hdi problem.
Im not the most mechanically minded either which doesnt help! Lol

Try tightening the injector unisons, I had this issue on the HDi I had briefly. They just need tightening up really good. The leak only ever happened under load so you could never see it leaking at idle or by revving.

As above, i'd say it looks like you've got damp patches around and below a couple of the injector unions in those pictures. The leak off pipes look to be in good condition, you can flex them a bit to see if there's any perishing.

So i gave the engine a good clean and tightened everything up, it helped a bit but there still appears to be a leak at the base and 1 injector seems to be 'wet' while other 3 are dry. I've read the leak can't come from the base but have no idea where else to look

Check the unison on that one again. I bet it's still not tight enough and it's leaking from there.

It's completey dry and tight as the rest of them. Injector 3 was wet with diesel before i tightened it and is now dry but is still leaking a tad but drying up (as you can see in the first pic on prev post)

Stupid ipad only lets me post 1 pic at a time
