Is anyone teetotal?

My work colleagues do like a drink, but I've never found it hard to go down to the pub and just drink coke/water/whatever - I don't think NOT going to the pub is a good thing, it makes you want to drink more, but go down to the pub and just don't drink - have one and spend the rest of the evening drinking something else... If you're anything like me, you'll realise the alcohol isn't what you were after, it's the social aspect that you actually enjoy. IMHO the only way to do it is to associate the pub NOT with alcohol - I know for a lot of people being social = drinking alcohol = good times = when I'm down drink alcohol because alcohol = good times - if you get me... Once you break that idea that the only good times involve alcohol, I think it'll probably begin to fall into place.

Gonna have to try that, I'd miss the social aspect too much. I have realised how much I drink at home just now actually, so I'm gonna stop that as a start.

I haven't drunk any alcohol since I was old enough to and look at how amazing my social life is....oh, wait. Being honest, I hate not drinking, especially when dragged to a pub etc.


For you, I wouldn't say giving up completely is the way to go, just makes you want things more tbh. Eventually you'll get into a really shit situation where you run out of effort to keep resisting. Then go mad and binge and end up worse off for it as you're no longer used to it. However you can make an active effort to cut down as others have said, take less money with you, take note of how much you're drinking if in a situation like that bbq, maybe even try non-alcoholic alcohol occasionally, etc.

In some ways buddy I kind of want to stop completely for a while just to see how it feels... Problem is, I can say I won't drink much, but then I have a couple and that goes out the window. I'm all or nothing.

Mate I know you say you dont have a problem but I'd seriously consider Alcoholics Anonymous or some other sort of professional help. The AA website keeps coming up for me as one of those targeted adverts on facebook (which isnt a good sign).

Everytime you would normally, stick a tenner in a pot...

At end of mont you will have saved some money and worked out truly how much you may or may not rely on alcohol

This is what I'm thinking, see how much it costs me. That's what I did with cigs to be honest
