R70 pump HELP!!!

Fitted an R70 injection pump now cant get the engine to fire up, does it need coding for the ecu to recognise it i am stumped any help appreciated guys

No it doesn't.

Check the relief valve isn't stuck. OR swap it over for the old known good one.

Definitely connected all the pipes correctly? Fpr plugged in? Is it a refurbished pump or second-hand?

So you were told... We'll assume it's good for the time-being, plenty of other things to check out. I assume the answer to all the other questions is yes as well..?

Firstly, can you get the car on good diagnostics with live data, preferably peugeot planet or snap-on or similar? Did you re-time the engine properly after having the cambelt off? Have you primed the fuel system adequately before trying to start the engine?

You may just have a load of air in the system, it's quite hard to get it out once you've tried to start. I would recommend taking the pipe off where it goes to the fuel rail and then bleed any air out by turning the ignition to two clicks. If it sputters then that means there was air in there, then you can put the pipe back on, prime 10 times and then try to start.

Car still not starting, took the exit pipe off the pump and there is no diesel being pumped out at all, the diesel is pumping from the filter ok, all the pipes are fitted correctly and the timing is correct too, is the pump knackered or can I do anything more??

Sprocket is on ok, is the control valve on the r70 the same as standard one, can I swap them over?

I have never seen a working second hand pump.. They are all seized, because they have been stored without oil in them.

Hi all, finally got my car back after my 'mate' went awol somewhere.
not good though, after swapping over the regulator there was no change, the damned ting still not start !
I found a local mechanic with software and its the pump not giving any fuel pressure
so fitting old one back on before i forget how to drive !!
Is it worth me dismantling the pump and fitting a repair kit ? and if so where do i get one, internet seems very vague on this.

You can buy new seal kits from your local diesel specialist, but it's not a home-mechanic job to rebuild them really.

Repair kit will generally just contain seals. If one of the internal pistons/valves etc... have corroded it would need to be replaced as the tolerances in a CR pump are very fine.

Might be worth stripping it down for a butchers though. Take your time to remove the varnish from the torx heads because they are very tight so need the bit to be fully inserted before removal.

Use an impact driver if you do decide to take it apart, makes it so much easier as those bolt heads really are sods.

Also, bear in mind many places will not accept a pump that's been tampered with as an exchange unit, if you were considering that as an option.

Fair play to you. Make sure you keep everything meticulously clean and in order - tolerances are fine enough that putting it back together slightly dirty or in the wrong order will mean it won't turn over, let alone work. I've written a guide/blog on this somewhere, last page of the guides section i should think lol.

Cheers Poodle, I've put the old pump back on and it started straight away after priming, I won't be able to strip the pump for a couple of weeks but looking forward to doing it, I used to regularly strip and rebuild my 2-stroke kart engine years back so have done stuff before.

Decided to get the r70 pump checked out by a local diesel specialist this week just in case its salvageable, then I can use it rather than dismantle it and render it useless, I will let you know how it goes.

Ah the old pineapple motor. I have two one could be a tt27 and I think the other is a tt31.

I use to race in my school race team and gave it up after I left. Started up again after an arrive and drive season for my 30th. I've also just started racing in a 90s series this year, racing at Fulbeck this weekend.
