306 feels slow.
#1
So i have had my hdi for nearly a year.
Lately its been feeling slow compared to when i got it.

Its got bad tapping injectors, on 170k
Would they make it loose power?

I also noticed one day my boost gauge pipe came off, and i got a sudden amount of power.

Any ideas?

Injectors could make a difference to power, but not enough that i'd expect you to feel it. More likely the maf has gone, try running with it unplugged and see if theres a difference.

Boost gauge feed also feeds the wastegate actuator, so when the pipe came off you would have been running with the wastegate held shut and over-boosting.

I tried unplugging maf and there was no difference.
I drilled the inlet elbow for boost gauge pipe,

If theres no difference with the MAF unplugged then it's broken...

Would it make a noticeable difference? :-)
I will have to find one and try it.

Not if it's broken, no lol. You just did try it, that was the whole point of the exercise. lol

Basically, if the ecu isn't getting maf readings that are close to what it expects, then it resorts to a set of "safe" default values, ie low values which will make sure the car doesn't smoke, but also make it feel down on power. Unplugging the maf forces the ecu to resort to these default values, so if there's no difference between maf plugged in and maf unplugged then the maf is dead and needs replacing to restore power and economy.

Do you have one of those stupid K&N style filters? They're known for killing mafs.

Proper siemens vdo maf is about £70 new from euros, wouldnt bother with second hand unless its a known-good and low mileage one and pattern parts aren't worth the chinese newspaper they're made out of as a rule.

Did you take the cold air feed off yourself? If so that will have knocked the power back a touch once the engine is warm, wont have made a difference to the maf though.

Theres some people say you can sort them for a while with a spray of electrical cleaner or similar, probably worth a try before shelling out.

Haha love it, Dukes of Hazard horn. I want one.

The MAF is a dud by the sounds of it, only buy Chinese if it comes with a warranty, otherwise buy genuine. Great advice from Poodle, it's just not worth buying 2nd hand unless you don't have any money, as chances are it won't work!
Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

There's a part number kicking about somewhere, you should be able to find it on servicebox pretty easily. Most of the 2.0 8v hdi engines use the same maf, certainly the bosch-managed systems.

so i bought a MAF fitted it, and still no power,
so decided to put the airbox pipe back on, power was back until it went into limp mode,
wouldnt rev past 3000, awful ticking coming from engine,

got autocom on it and got 2 codes

[img][Image: 306faultcodes2_zps08f826cf.jpg][/img]

cleared the faults, and it started fine ran with the power back,

is that a sensor on the way out?
