My New Daily - VW Passat Estate
#1
Well as some of you know, I sold the HDI as I'd been looking for a new daily (Don't worry, I still have the rallye). It took 4 months of searching to find the right one.

I bought a Passat B6 estate just over a month ago. Planned to leave it as it was but as always I've already started messing so thought I'd start a thread.

1.9 SE. Mechanically its the best one we've looked at. Interior is immaculate but the bodywork needs attention (which I've now sorted)

Snaps from the advert.

I removed the large plate on the back of the towbar. Ideally I'd like to get rid of the towbar, but decided that it will come in useful for the mountain bikes each weekend so bought a bike carrier, which will make things easier for our trip to the Alps etc.

However, I think I might need long vehicle warning stickers

With the recent better weather I decided to give the barge a polish and wax with the porter cable. Its 100% better but not managed to get out all the swirl marks, VW paint is much harder than French paint haha

Dirty

Clean

Managed to get the worst of the swirl marks out and also managed to 'hide' the scratches so they are a lot less noticeable. Overall its 100% better.

Needed lows so picked us my coilover kit last weekend

And well they are on, was yesterdays afternoon job

Before

After

Gone for a 60mm drop, think it looks spot on, still sensible as a daily as well.

I'll get better photos when I get chance.

Why did it go from 03 to 07 plate in the pics?

I should have bought my mates 140 tdi b6 cr a few years ago, full vwsh and only 2 owners with low miles. He got bummed by the dealer on trade in instead. I dont think I could ever describe a passat as exciting, but they are perfect workhorses.

1.9 makes it a pd engine I guess, what power output is it, a 105? Should map towards 135 if so.

The 03 plate is a private plate i suspect.

Nice looking cars these but dull. Same engine as my old car i believe. Does the turbo make a epic whine like the police are chasing you? lol

It was on a private plate when I got it which has gone to the previous owner. They made the mk6 from a 55 plate til 2010.

I wanted to avoid the 2.0l as until 2009 they had loads of issues. The 1.9 is only 105 bhp but it will be getting mapped so will be 145 ish then.

Its actually really nice to drive.

Plans next are front bumper spoiler, remap, rear tints and then later on it will be different wheels a us spec debadged grille.

never know, might use it to tow the rallye for trackdays one day

All private plates make the car look older...you cant have one making it look newer lol.

Also that's blatantly private with all the D's and J's! lol

6 digit plates dont give away the ages though, surely you can 7 digit personalised ones that are 07 (for example) instead of 03, thats mad!

You can but i bet if you looked now for a private plate on a brand new car you have just bought, if you had AA14 TOM, it would be a shit load more expensive than AA04 TOM.

Personally i bloody hate private plates unless you can afford one that is blatantly private and worth shit loads and even then, its just a status symbol.

Maybe the 03 means something to that person though, rather than just being random....

I know someone that's just had one for their birthday with their age on it for example, obviously not in this case but could mean anything lol.

We had one of these on hire for 3 weeks.

Does what is says on the tin, no thrills though, and looks like every other Passat/Skoda inside.

That said, beats driving round in a 20 year old french shit can :p
