So I've taken some time off work whilst its quite to get some work done in the garage and on the car, the week didnt start great as its being raining alot ( as most of you know), but as its cleared up today I got a bit done before my other 306 decided it didnt like all the attention the cherry was getting.

Yesterday a very disgruntled delivery driver had to haul this down the close and the drive, as he couldnt reverse for s**t Rolleyes

Que one 20 ton press
[attachment=19455]

Built and housed in the workshop/mess
[attachment=19456]

Then started today cleaning threads out, putting the wiring, servo, master cylinder and brake lines in.
[attachment=19457]

Thats it for today, hope fully tomorrow ill get the subframe etc built and back on the car all depends on how scrappy raiding goes.

Minor update, as i didn't get much done due to the awful weather and work getting in the way.

I got the subframe built up with all new bushes, partner p bushes and powerflex on the subframe and new anti roll bar bushes.
[attachment=19603]

Then got it all bolted in along with new track rods and track rod ends.
[attachment=19604]

Just waiting on the new ball joint pinch bolts to get the rest of the front end suspension built up

cheers piggy, its the comments like yours that help me along when im not feeling it.

Been a little chaotic at work due to one of our mechanics taking emergancy leave but I managed to get an hour away for some engine fitting.
[attachment=19701]

Plumbed up the diesel lines etc, but it doesnt want to pull any diesel up from the tank, now it could be me but i thought when i parked it up it had 1/2 a tank however that was 7-8months ago and i cant even remember what i had for breakfast this morning, I'll have a look come daylight, or ill sling the loom and battery on and check the guage again.

Nice clean engine bay..you not think of painting the block too? Seriously enough though it looks great. I've a 5dr cherry as well, rattle canned most of the engine bay when I last had the engine out, makes some difference, and I didn't do it to anywhere near the standard of yours!
Gov modded 11mm Bosch + Standard turbo = 137.2bhp . . . . TD04 now in...time to get playing!

cheers for the comments, I was going to paint the engine but as its only going to be in there for a short peiod of time while i fully rebiuld another motor to take more boost i thought theres not much point.

In other news i managed to get an hour this afternoon to get her going, so i poured more diesel in the tank and she primed and fired straight up Big Grin
Obviously my french fuel guage lies, alot as after putting 5 liters in i have just over half a tank Dodgy

Ive also added some more parts to the ever growing colection inc 21mm tb's, 24mm rear arb and these adjustable avo shocks an absolute ebay bargin @ £1.04 Big Grin

that's all for now folks

Mate, this is real inspiration for me as I have to do the same stuff to my 6. Love how you have gone about it and it looks REALLY good!.

Only thing is though, I though that rust converters like krust were utter shit??

Lovely job though man!

What kind of stone chip stuff did you use?

I promise not to dissapoint, many more things will be shiney/clean by the time i get this finished, although i can kinda see it becoming a constant project/rolling restoration

The bilt hamber products are amazing and well worth the money for them, quite a few people on here will tell you the same, the hammerite ones are crap if im honest.

For the stone chip i used tetrosyl, it came highly recommended to me and comes in either a rattle can or a tin for underseal/stone chip guns.

So it was bilt hamber products that you used for all your derusting?

Did you use the bilt hamber zinc primer on your bay too followed by stone chip?

Sorry for the 21 questions mate but mine needs the same work and your work looks fantastic.

no worrys, with mine I wire brushed all the lose and flaky stuff off and took the paint well back in those areas to ensure there was no rust lurking.
then i used bilt hamber deox gel on the large stuff, the smaller stuff went into a huge tub of bilt hamber deox c solution.
then it was cleaned down and prepped for paint.

It then got a coat of hydrate 80 over the bare metal, followed by cellulose primer, stone chip, 2 coats of colour and 2 coats of 2k laquer

thanks very much for that mate. really appreciate it. Am I going too oldschool by setting my sights on zinc primer? was thinking of using metal oxide/zinc primer from Wurth or using Bilt Hambers electrox. I really want my paint work to last a long time and im sick of people telling me "If there is any rust, it needs cut out or it WILL come back" which is a tad offputting lol as im no welder.

Thanks again for posting on my thread, its great to see others going in to the same effort that I want to with mine Smile

ive heard great things about electrox but never used it myself, i used zinc 182 on my landy it was useless tbh.

if theres rust that you cant get out of the metal with just wire brushing deox gel will get shut of it you only really need to cut out and weld if its rusted too thin to be structual anymore

not the clearest photo's but you can just see the resut before and after

it has a quick wire brush then a coat of deox gel and left for a day

So had minor set back on friday, I managed to get some time to work on the DT rather than other peoples cars.

I got all the plumbing done and the slam panel on filled her up with water, fired her up for it to piss out the head faster then I could pour it in.

Any ways lesson learned never buy and "Perfect Low Milage Running Engine" to get you by as it never works that way in my experience.

No Pics at the moment as im on the computer in the tower, but its now headless and the heads at northern road engineering for a skim Sad

Sooo, It's been awhile since I've had chance to get anywhere on this due to other peoples cars and my health but I got alittle done over the last week, and I've been collecting bits over the last month or so too.

First the shiney bits:

Goodridge braided hoses
[attachment=22217]

Compbrake quick shift, an ebay bargin at £5 although i need to machine up a couple of collets for it.[attachment=22218]

I've also bought gearbox seals, gearbox oil etc but we all know what they look like.

I also found a 307 in the scrappy with some refurb'd 283mm fronts on so I acquired them for the grand total of £20
stripped,primed and painted.
[attachment=22220]
[attachment=22221]
[attachment=22222]

And got the hubs built up with new bearings
[attachment=22219]

Thats all for now but i should have more time for this car as soon as I get my landy rebuilt.

[attachment=undefined]Yet again a delayed update due to the same reasons Sad but I've managed to get an hour or two on the car today so I built the n/s/f suspension up ready to roll, hopefully I'll have the o/s/f done on Monday evening after this weekends race meeting.
Also picked up a Megane intercooler and a ph3 n/s/r arch liner up from the scrappy for less than a tenner Big Grin

Looks like a proper in depth rebuild tbf. Fair play to ya Big Grin looking really good so far.

How far do u plan on taking it engine wise? Stage 1/2 etc?

I've plans for the engine but I think realistically it'll end up being either a 1.9 with forged rods etc and a g/box mounted vnt or a 2.1 build.

Managed an hour on the car tonight and got the alternator and pas pump on, had a little trouble as my aux setup came off the nad and the engine came from an a/c equipped 405 but nothing the angle grinder couldn't solve.

Onto other things I need peoples opinions on a few things.
I need to relocate the battery to the boot ready for the next engine, what size cable have people used for an xud?

And the other I completely forgot so I'll comeback to that shortly [attachment=23159]

So then i havent really updated this in quite awhile, work got crazy then some quack cut a massive hole in the side of my leg.
but stuff has happened here and there and hopefully now im on the mend again progress should pick up

A quick recap of the last 5months.
The engine i fitted was scrap, mains where scored to f**k, pistons scrap and generally a very tired engine ( was supposed to of being a 55k engine, like hell it was)
So i bought Ash's spare motor and went for a drive to collect it.
here it is back home on the stand ready for a clean

So started on stipping the car down once again (as you do ), i think im getting better at this full engine removal in 53mins with an assistant
The head was loose already due to being stripped for inspection after the epic headgasket failure

Pulled it out and stripped the bosch and t2 off it then retired it to the junk pile ( Which is getting quite large at the mo Dodgy )

Did find a freebie behind the pump craddle too which was a nice surprise as you can never have enough 10mm spanners

removing the box clucth arm pin was a right bugger and was actually bent, in the end i had to weld a nut on the end and wind it out which melted the top bush

After this i had two helpers although the useful one went to sleep in the back of the unit and the useless one was just well a joiner whos good at lifting stuff and braking bolts Rofl

So made a start on the newer hopefully better engine.
First up was to strip it down ready for the hdi rods and a full refresh on gaskets seals etc.
Now i may of failed with the pictures here as although i remember taking some i cant find them at the mo

So the short version, i fitted the hdi rods from a genuine 47k engine that i bought as an entire car to strip for parts for a friend ( he paid for the car i took the rods as payment for stripping it)
Then it had genuine cranks seals and hockey stick seals, apparently my local stealers at scunthorpe say these are NLA and even if they werent theyd come in a bag of 20 Speechless
Then after a quick call to lincoln i payed 84p a piece and took 4 for good measure Big Grin

ill get back to this later as food and beer is calling.

Right then now on with the update, food was found, beer was rubbish (if anyone wants some rubbish beer let me know any ill post it to you)

Soo hockey stick seals were 84p and i was a happy man, although having to put 15litres in the bike made them a little more than 84p each
i then left it for a month whilst i buggered round doing 14hour days at work and then spending most of my days off spannering and tutoring my brother
One of the best shots i got of him out in the rain for your amussement

So some pics of the crank fitted

Pistons cleaned up and went in with the low milage rods, i didnt change the big ends due to the expense and the low milage of the shell's

The big ends where checked for oil clearance using plastiguage

Once all the big ends where checked and found within tolerance the pump and sump went back on awaiting the head back from RPM

That'll do for now as ive still got to find pics of the head assembly yet

Continuing on with the saga I got the head back from RPM which rodger did a cracking job on perfect skim and 3 angle seats.

Got it all down using a genuine mls and a set of arp studs thanks to piggy's group buy awhile ago, then the manifolds etc all fell into place
Couldnt find anymore pics so i must of just steamed through the day

Just need to pick up a few barbs for the inlet manifold, boost guage and lda

At this point i ended up in hospital after going from specialist to specialist for 8 years, needless to say im in much less pain with a 4" cut down my leg then i was before the opp Big Grin

I bought a DC tig as i'd alway said that i want to learn how to tig, so as soon as i could move enough again i started making some hard boost pipes
not sure if ill use them yet but its mainly practice

Thats all for now folks, i hope to have an update for you come tuesday
