White smoke running shit UPDATED
#1
Anyone shed any light on this have no idea when it comes to hdi

Got a 307 hdi 110bhp

Starts and idles fine

But when you rev it around 1500rpm it chucks loads of white smoke think its unburnt diesel

Rev it to 2k and it starts missing and nocking like a xud that's too far advanced dosent like going past 2k

Any ideas?

No lights on dash going to check timing but apart from that I'm unsure 100% what it is.

Maybe a f*cked injector/injectors?

Does the smoke smell like diesel? I had this issue sith a f*cked injector although that was at 3k+ rpms.

I was thinking f*cked injector but wasn't sure, yea smells like diesel that's why I am going to rule timing out

Yeah if its not timing its possibly & morr than likely an injector at fault bud.

Shouldnt need to change them all one would sort it!

Yep white smoke from a diesel is unburnt fuel (often seen when starting if glow plugs aren't working).

I too would be looking at the injectors.

Any way to test them without sending them off or is it a case of buy another and try it?

I don't know if it will throw up any codes but you could unplug one at a time until you find the one thats smoking.

Nooooo dont unplug them, ive read that this can be fatal on a hdi engine.

Dont quote me as I dont know the facts but I would avoid it.

When mine were faulty I changed one by one lol.

You can run a leak off test at idle to diagnose the injectors, if the results vary a lot then generally the injectors are bad.
Usually when the injectors are bad the car will white smoke and chug when started from cold and then go away so it's worth checking the injectors before getting changing them. Is the car standard?

Yea it's standard mate

Dosent really smoke on idle it's just when you give it some revs

I would still say injectors bud just due to having the same issues.

The diesel should burn, if it's not then is maybe the compression down?

Also un-burnt diesel means no torque from that cylinder so rough running will be evident too.

HG failure on one of the cylinders perhaps?!

Any signs of bad oil or pressurising coolant circuit?!

Just my quick thoughts.

Dosent the leak off test rule them out?

Hmm, 3 looks considerably lower than the others, unless it's just the angle of the pic.

Also, what is that colour from? Wonder if something odd has been put in the tank to upset it?

Ah I see lol. Isn't red diesel less well filtered as its meant for agri use? Possibly water in it?

Depends red can be clean it's when people pump it from the diesel pump into dirty drums and pour it in the car

I've left the bottles to sit so will see if there's water in it

But it's white unburnt diesel smoke

Can't be glow plugs as I left it running half hour and it was still smoking

Engine sounds really ticky so could be injectors?

Ok fair enough. Can you not get diagnostics or PP on it? Doesn't have to be a fault light for a fault code to be stored. And PP will obviously show specific readings.

Another thought though, is the EGR stuck open? If it's allowing exhaust in at higher rpm under load it'll lack oxygen and overfuel. I've currently got this issue on the Vec but the effect isn't as bad as yours sounds.

If egr was stuck wouldn't engine management light be on?
