Hi,
Okay like a virgin know nowt about these cars at all, I bought one cos my other make was going to cost too much to fix. So what I have is an X reg 1.8 Meridian in blue, half leather seats, alloys, body kit blah, blah blah....totally straight not modded.
The faults I have found are as follows', the digital dash comes and goes, the speedo works then doesn't, the rear wiper does not work, i think it should work from the same control as the front wipers, which do, the radio needs re-coding, it has 1 key which does not work on the remote...and the front brakes are brakes are squealing a bit when setting off but calm down a bit after driving...
It is a well kept, neat tidy car, which claims on its current MOT to have done 79004 miles but with 6 months to go is on 80,000... just over.
So I suspect these are all common faults but as I say i don't know anything....bear with me you Specialists, regular Owners, Forum members Modders, Officianardos of all things 306 and tell me a few things.
1. Where can I get a workshop or even a Haynes manual from..or is it e-bay time?
2.What is that gauge for that starts out at max then settles down just as the engine warms up?
3. What is the amber light on/off push switch with the up and down signs bisected by a cross...I'm suspected it is a cutoff/arming ' airbag? switch.
4. What should I look at for as danger signs..it seems to have new oil in it, the brakes, I feel need attention but work..I like them much more positive though..it has discs all around
5. The steering is powered, I take it, its default is a heavy feel to it, I'll get used to it UNLESS it should be lighter, I don't know
and apart from all that everything else works, it's a well tidy machine for its age..........oh and I'm not taking the ( michael ) just in case you think it's a fellow person having a wind up.....I'll pic it later after a few replies, if need be.

Hey! Don't panic. All simple to fix
1. eBay
2. Gauge is oil level. Don't pay too much attention to it. Still check your dipstick
3. That switch is the cut off for rear electric windows
4. Nothing special to look for with these except if electrics start doing weird things
5. Steering is quite heavy anyway. Have a listen to the pump. As long as there's no grinding noises then it's fine. Mine decided to shit its self and throw shavings of metal all over the bay.
1.8 is a top engine. Not the most powerful but solid and reliable!
Rear wiper is quite easy to fix. You need to replace the relay in the boot lid then seal it in a bag or something. They get wet and pack up.
Speedo could need a new sensor. Can be picked up cheaply on eBay and not difficult to fit.
Key can be reprogrammed with Peugeot planet. Iirc there are 3 of us on here in the south with the kit to do it. I will do it for you of your close!

Hello Tony! I have a 1.8 too. Neil above is the person who i would say knows the most about them. As he said. Ebay for the haynes manual. Make sure you get the later edition as most of the copies out there are for Phase 2 and older (1999 and before).
I have a problem with my speedo too that it drops out. Check the sensor (i still dont know where it is myself). It only does it now and again and i have my sat nav on so i just look at that!

Sensor is located on top of the diff at the back of the gearbox. Look at your air filter box then go back towards the bulkhead and look down. There will be a dirty white sensor

Thanks Guys, its like anything if you have no knowledge of it - you have no answer!
I really think I've got a decent car here but you never know, my last car a reliable Toyota decided it needed a new cluth assemby with a double mass thing coming in at £400 new and £600 labour at mates rates ( no VAT )..so I sacked that and bought this with loads of change.....I'll probably p/ex the other later or sell it outlining the fault or just SORN the MF and forget about it!
I appreciate the help.

Yep yours should be a phase 3. You can easily tell from if you have round headlights and colour coded bumpers and you have crystals (clear headlights) etc. Phase 2 have wider bump strips and arent colour coded and have oval foglights (if fitted). And Phase 1... well they are just pretty different and you can tell easily!
Get some pictures up and you will find a project section towards the bottom of the forum. If you make a thread in there and tell us about your car then then just keep updating that thread as and when you do things to the car

Yeah it's a PH3. Don't think anyone on here near you has a PP to sort your key!

Yes I complained about the one key and got £70 knocked off on the strength of that after we had already haggled....
Where would be the place to go in Leeds, would anyone have an idea?
Cheers

Right in order to code your key, you need a code. There is a guy on here that can get all the key codes for your car from your vin for a 5er. Pug want 25 to do it.

So assuming I get this code, it needs sorting with one key OR can I get a hold of new keys, I'd like 2 that work.
Thanks

You can have upto 5 keys on the cars BSI for the locking and as many as you like for the immobiliser.
When you get the code, the guy who program's it will need all the keys you want programmed to the car as it rewrites the number on the keys everytime they put it into configure mode. It also means that any old keys become useless so if a previous owner sees the car, they can't take it!

Neil,
I didn't know it had an Immobiliser..........will that work when the door is locked with the ONLY key I have ( which is the door and ignition key ) or does it require the rcl to be working - which isn't OR is it a seperate fob/key altogether?
Know you know why I've called myself F.I.I.K ..........
Tony
PS I've yet to try changing the battery of course..only had it a week and had to wait 3 days to get it taxed.........

Easiest way to understand it is think of the RCL and immobiliser as two completely different systems.
Inside the key you will find the chip for the RCL. There will also be a tiny little black chip in the key for the immobiliser.
The immob chip can be programmed very easily by most key shops. (timpsons will copy the original and write the code to a new chip for you ). This allows you to start the car but the RCL will still not work. To program the RCL you need Peugeot planet. The immobiliser works completely separately from the RCl (even though it's part of the same unit)
If you get the modding bug and decide to come tl some shows, I can plug my Peugeot planet in and program your RCL provided it hasn't been programmed to any other cara before.

You need a cut blade, brand new RCL chip (sometimes you can use second hand ones but it's a bit hit or miss whether they will reprogram or not) and the immobilzer chip. I'm looking into buying some chips at the moment so I can offer these to people but at the moment, I would suggest going to Timpsons and getting them to copy your original chip. They only charge a couple of quid.

Thanks Hitchos.
I got a new key today with an immobiliser chip £35 no less.....anyway less likely to 'lose' my only key now.....I can live without the rcl for now but at least he changed the battery for me. Thanks for the help..did it via Timpsons...and JJ is sending me a manual..
Found out today that the ' horn' is on a stalk and it does NOT work...is it a fuse or a common fault..the speedo sensor making me drive like a Granny near Truvelo's and Gatso's.........
But am enjoying the car, its been a long time since I felt like being a proud owner of one.

Declantg - Not yet, I need a manual to look at stuff or I will break things......I've always been the same..so have learnt to take it slow and steady - some just dive straight in, fix and look at me daft for not having the gumption.....I'm brill at other things but I've bust too much stuff on cars so try not to mess about..... but if I'm honest..I'm getting a bit itchy to know how it ticks, especially when I'm finding niggly little things not working..so .......where is the fuse box and what size/colour should I check...please.
