Why can't there ever be a decent discussion on here about other cars outside of Peugeot? People need to remember that their opinions are just that, opinions.

Stephen, if you want a 3 series, best bet is to go drive one. They're very nice cars, very solid and very well built. I just found my 330d to be a bit... too refined. That may sound daft but after a 306 they're very quiet and wafty.

I didn't have mine long as it wasn't for me, but they are good cars and look really good. Especially with the M-sport kit. M-sport leathers are epic too! They don't take much to look awesome.

I'm glad someone said it! Can easily see now why people disappear from here after getting something that 'shock horror!' isn't either A) French or B) a 306..

I'd reply ginge but everyone else has already said it tbh.. My only other point is the pic of a '3 series' you pic happens to be a pov spec one on crappy wheels and in a 4 door.. which i can't see anyone liking..

Compare that with this say..

Auto-porn IMO.. and hardly 'boring'.. have you even driven a decent 3 series?

It's pretty old now tbh, given the number of people selling up and trying something different you'd think people would have gotten over it by now Smile

Oh f*ck off scott your opinion no longer counts now you dont own a peugeot! Tongue

Seriously though, 3 series are becoming cheap now for a fairly decent condition one. These sort of threads are pretty pointless because its you that will be driving it and everyone likes different things from their cars. I had a 3 series for 2 weeks and i didnt like it. I cant put my finger on why but it was too much hard work to drive. The higher spec ones like danny has posted above though do look good!

Also I can't believe people think they look boring, I'm never going back to Peugeot now after this car

Well this thread has escalated while ive been at work
Yeah a pov spec version is going to look boring, because its pov spec, if i had one it would me the m sport or spec or whatever it is, and i think they look alot better then a 306/205, might not be as fun to drive yeah but i never really drive enthusiastically anymore

this imo looks mint

IMO they're equally as fun to drive, but it is in a slightly different way.. If you're going to get one (unless 4 door is a MUST) then definitely go for the coupe as the suspension setup is different.. Difference being with these is that when you've had your fun.. it's still comfortable and everything still works as it should do

Throw all logic out the window and get an old school Jap RWD/AWD petrol turbo. You know you want to.

Honestly, the 3 litre diesels really aren't that great on fuel.. for the extra they cost, just get the petrol!

The 320 is, I'd assume Danny is talking about the 330d? The 320d is more economical, from what I've read you just sacrifice refinement of the 6 pot.

It's all down to opinion and preference at the end of the day, if everyone wanted the same car there would only be one available.

lmao

Correct me if in wrong but I believe manufacturers spend millllions on how a car looks.
And Christ, I'm sure sraymond cares about an image being the youngster he is.

Yes, a 3 series would suit you Tom; with be ideology and mentality of a 40 year old

You've completely missed the point. It's boring in YOUR opinion! Doh

It's subtle in my opinion. I couldn't drive something like an Evo or a Scooby as I find them far too conspicuous. But that doesn't mean no-one else should drive them.

I think it's completely inconspicuous

Oh I'll look forward to reading it Ginge.....

Yeah curt, On about the 330d.. the 320d is much much better on fuel in general but obviously lacks the poke that the 330d has.. also bear in mind the pre-04 engines have the swirl flap issues (easy to sort though)

320d with a remap goes alright Wink not as good as a 330 obviously... but still. Oh and early manual 330ds don't have swirl flaps, which is a bonus.

I loved my e46 that everyone saw at fcs last year & I'd certainly have one again albeit diesel & facelift but for the money I certainly think there are better cars out there.

I don't listen to all this bandwagon bull shit its just not worth the effort, we all know ginge hates anything bar peugeot, Tom hates everything, Dum hates vectras but loves mondeos, Niall likes saabs and I like vectras. What does it matter?

If you want an unbiased opinion you need to ask a 'car' forum, not car specific.

I've learnt to buy the car I want & not to worry what people think, you'll be no nearer to choosing a car when this thread inevitability gets locked...

I think for the money (£1k or less) you can't really beat a 306 nowadays, but the reality is that there are many better cars out there, just not for that kind of money. The 306 is simple (relatively) and you can fix most problems yourself - you can't say that for many modern cars - which I think is why online forums / car clubs aren't what they used to be. People would rather have an "appliance" car and take it back to the dealers for a new lightbulb when one blows.

Let's face it: none of us would be in a 306 if it weren't for the financial situation we find ourselves in!
Disclaimer: The above is not to be taken to heart and is probably a joke, grow up you big girl.

depends what the OP wants. but buying a vag or 3 series is getting a bit predictable and mundane now.

I would head to wards this:

I'm with ginge to be fair, I have pretty eclectic taste in cars and the 3-series just doesn't do it for me. They're dull as standard, and all the modified ones look the same to me (either tarted up with carbon, or stanced).

I'd be looking at Saab or Volvo in terms of a repmobile-type-car, because how many of them do you see dropped on nice wheels? Individuality FTW, especially if you have 3 grand to spend on it. As CAR said, it's hard to see past the 306 for what they cost, but once you're talking an extra 2 grand on the budget it's a whole different world. Frankly I'm not sure if I'd ever buy a saloon/coupe/repmobile, I'd grab an estate if I was going down that route.
