#31
Poodle, just boot up with a command prompt, enable hidden admin account, then you've got full access to the machine

I bricked my ECU once back in the day. Either get handy with soldering or send it to someone.

Three or four years ago I paid about £80 cash (which I posted with the ECU) to the "ECU Doctor" who are based toward Plymouth, returned it within two days with a years warranty for accidental damage/wipes.

Not ideal but could be worth a punt.

If you want you can post the ecu to me, I should be able to recover it and if not I'll de-solder the chip and re-write it with a programmer, I'm in Belfast though pm me if interested for the address.

^ Same thing ECU Doctor or anyone will do; in order to fix it the chip has to be flashed.

Con's probably your best option, he'll be sure to do it cheaper. Blush

Just to let you guys know that Pro_Steve said "I think the file was bad you put on. Tried to read it off and it was completely random." So anyone that has that map beware

Well I'm just relaying what I've been told, funny thing is that I don't find it that hard to believe, it's not hard for a file to become corrupted and if the specialist believes that it could be the file then I'm gonna take his word on that and say that somewhere along the line the file has become corrupted.

What are the other options, the ecu shit itself for no reason? I'd find that harder to believe myself lol.

Lol.. ok.. files just corrupt themselves for lols..

Really? Over the past few years loads of people have had to change ecus for no reason what so ever because they've shit themselves after spending ages replacing basically every other part

Was looking at that exact file last night on winols, didn't look very 'corrupt'

I don't know why you're getting so defensive about it, the file become corrupted somewhere along the line, it's not hard for it to do that, could of easily picked up something bad through the interweb

I don't see how anything said has been defensive? I've done nothing but try and help

You are supposed to check the file size before flashing....

Lol granted, mine did!

I don't understand why you are so sure the file isn't corrupt, why would Steve lie about it? As I said before, the file size was right when I dld it, otherwise I wouldn't have applied it. I've still got the file and can get you a screenshot if you like?

I have an idea why.. but we'll leave that for another day

I just find it hard to believe that a file that hasn't been tampered with, only sent and then received.. downloaded (the file size being right indicates that no data has been lost/added to it) could be 'bad'..

If you've still got that file i'd be interested to have a look through it again in winols and see if there's any differences

lmao

Files get corrupted when theyre bounced around the internet, it happens. Seen it plenty of times before, more than i've seen dead ecus anyhow lol. If you're that bothered pm me your email address and i'll send it back to you so you can look at it for yourself.

Maybe random 'files'.. but binary files have a much much lower chance of corruption.. hence why people use binary as a file type when uploading to things like FTP sites/servers...

'Mehh' tbh... it's not something i'll lose sleep over lol

Fair enough, don't know much about computers myself (can you tell?!? Wink ), thought all files were binary tbh lol. I dld the zip file for the very reason that they seem to be less prone to getting corrupted, lot of good that did. Rolleyes

Nah.. never... Tongue

Well.. apparently so! Hmm.. it's possible it's the unzipping of the file that caused it, i uploaded it directly as a .Bin though, so unless it was converted to a zip archive after it had been uploaded.. depends how the email provider deals with attachments tbh!

If you really want to check, both of you can run a crc check within windows and compare the hashes to rule out the chance of the file being corrupt.

Is it a recent map file off Steve? That was used

both of you run winmd5: http://www.winmd5.com/

it generates a hash. Feel free to independently send me your hash's and I'll verify.

Or, feel free to post it in this thread.

There's not really any need to tbh..

I know 1000% there's nothing wrong with the map itself, or the file on my PC.. but if poodle CBA then i'll do it later too

Just to clarify: this is NOT about apportioning ANY sort of blame. Its no-bodies fault, shit happens.

Its just about trying to find the root cause of the problem.
