What car next?
#31
Are some of you guys in your 30s!? If not, how the juddery f*ck do you afford to keep chopping/changing cars all the time? I'm 23 and still on my first car, can't see how anything could better it TBH. Am I doing it wrong?Huh As for the thread, the only car I really want is an Impreza STi. Other than that, maybe a merc 190e turbodiesel or something to run on veg. Maybe if I won the lottery I would just buy a new car for the hell of it but I would probably get bored after a few thousand miles!

306 DT
306 GTi-6
306 S16
406 V6 Coupe
306 GTi-6

There are a couple of cars in between (Peugeot Partner and 306 HDi estate) but those are the main ones.

And as of tomorrow I will be the proud owner of a Nissan Cube!

I think a lot of people on here live with their parents still, so that cuts out 90% of their costs, then there's the all-important factor of having a full-time job...

Oh, and since i didn't do it properly the first time:
Renault megane scenic 1.6 (and people wonder why i hate petrols... Wink )
306 HDi
306 Cabby 2.0 16v
306 HDi
106 NAD
ZX XUD
306 HDi
306 HDi Deathtrap - 130bhp / 220lbft
...UPGRADING...

106 key largo
Saab 95 HOT Aero
306 1.8
306 gti

None of them were particularly expensive. The most expensive was the Saab at 2.5k but you get a hell of a lot of spec for that money! Much more than an equivalent BMW or merc but with loads more power Smile The most fun i ever had though was in my 1.8 306. Wasnt the fastest by any means but such good fun to drive.

Don't usually lose much (if at all) on cars so use the money from one to buy the next. Smile

Until the Vectra where I was given some extra money for my 21st to spend on something 'new and reliable' lol. Rolleyes

Yes but you have to have someone come at look at it and mess you around. I would much rather just spend a few hundred on the same car each year to keep it on the road. If you don't mind the hassle and the constant swapping I guess it's okay, but you barely have enough time to do anything with each one.

I don't like the hassle of it, infact I really hate it, but my last few cars have HAD to be bought lol. Had to buy the 1st golf for diesel mpg, had to buy the 2nd golf for extra doors, had to buy the 106 when the golf failed and was off the road, had to buy the avensis when the golf died completely, rowell leant me his estate, so when he needed it back I had to buy another car, my china estate. Then my etstate was literally falling apart and not worth fixing for the MOT so had to buy something else, shame I chose a Vectra in hindsight but meh lol. Hopefully I'll get some money breaking the 306 to cover the money I'll lose on the Vectra.

I'd much rather break a car than sell it, seems to get more money too tbh. Obviously that only works if you have spare time to break though.

Yellow Vauxfail Astra 1.7 NAD (bought for £350, ragged it until it broke, sold for £100)

China 306 estate 1.6 meridian (bought it for £999, ragged it until the cambelt snapped, broke for spares, made £750)

Moonstone 306 estate HDi meridian (bought for £1000, looked after and modded it, sold for £1400)

Silver 306 estate HDi meridian (bought for £1500, never want to sell it Big Grin )

White 306 estate HDi meridian (bought on the cheap, daily lolrag wagon. 60MPG notacare motoring FTW!)

That's mainly because, despite what people may say, they are actually damned good cars!

Heh, damned right. They are like old series land rovers, you can replace every part until you have a practically new car.

Back on topic, if its petrol RWD kicks you want then I'm suprised the MX5 hasn't been mentioned, mk1's are awesome so cheap these days.

The E39 is pretty nice by the way, I like them. I prefer the older bimmers though. There's a guy on here (Jorge) who used to have a red E24 635CSI which was gorgeous. Such a shame it got written off Sad Bit out of your budget I know, but it looks amazing!

Before that he had this E46 330CI:

Ive had a..

206 xsi 1.6 16v
Audi tt 225
Renault Megane 1.6 16v (short term stopgap) - fkin horrible!
Audi s4 b5 (2.7 twin turbo - avg 10/15 mpg Sad )
Bmw 330d auto 2.9d
306 dturbo (a temp car I will now keep for the foreseeable)
Bmw 330d sport (6spd man 3.0d) - best all rounder.

With my m3 suspension setup and m3 geometry settings, it handles amazingly well for a podgy 1600kg car. On our favourite b-roads, i can easily sit on my mates rx8s bumper (231bhp). Straight line speed - im faster past legal limits on a roll. I believe mine is still unmapped @ ~200bhp.

However... My mates just bought a Leon k1. I've just been out in it, and its fkin lethal! Supposed to be about 240/250bhp factory but this feels mapped to beyond 300bhp! my cousins standard 335d felt slower! Not put my 330d up against it yet, but i can forsee him ripping me a new one! ... I'm looking for an m3 e46 now. Naturally! Confused

An e39 is a great car. Heavier still than an e46 and only come with the older 2.9d. Still, can get 250bhp from them and relatively good economy if in manual form.
