Aussie XT owner looking to track day
#1
Hi I'm Conza, I want to make my car into a track day machine, which I can still use on the road.

There's so many parts I could buy, but it seems the only 'necessary' one would be new brakes, my current ones won't last too much longer, and would either fade quickly or run out completely anyway.

I've found some brembos for about 100 pounds/$170AUD, (PN: 09.4987.76), but I think I have 14x5.5 inch wheels, so not sure if they'll fit straight onto my existing OE calipers and wheels, then I obviously want new pads at the same time - guessing same brand rotors and pads no matter what I chose?

I've also got a whole heap of other performance bits I might throw on while I'm spending money;

Alko front shocks (145 pounds/$245AUD)
Alko rear shocks (130 pounds/$217AUD)
Quaife LSD (540 pounds/$900AUD) (only if I get more than, idk, 180-190bhp)
Super cooling 8" radiator fan (38 pounds/$63AUD)
powerchips.cz Chip (46 pounds/$77AUD)

And if I go mad

TSP0159031 PEUGEOT 306 2.0 Petrol [3/97-12/02] Compressor (277 pounds/$463AUD)
158mm H-Bean Conrods (300 pounds/$500AUD obo)
WOSSNER FORGED PISTONS (575 pounds/$960AUD obo)
Piper Exhaust (478 pounds/$800AUD)

Would be nice to hear if anyone has used any of these parts, and how they went, I can provide the eBay links (if allowed?), but really the only part I think I 'need' is the brakes, so that's what I want to find out.

Welcome along. Im pretty sure you are going to need bigger wheels. If they are 406 v6 brembos id go for a minimum of 16"

Thanks for that info on the 406 wheels guys, I've actually decided (reccomened by my mechanic), to simply upgrade the rotors and pads to high quality ones, and not worry about upgrading the calipers. He's also a member of a club, and has raced at a local race track up to 180km/h, for some hours without fade (on an mi16 so must be a comparably fast car to my 306), so I'll see how that goes.

On an unrelated note, today my car just started overheating for no apparent reason, got up to 130 degrees?!? just made it back, let it cool back down to 70 (normal running temp), started her up again, looked a wee bit low, added about 2 litres of water, then it rose and disappeared, but then it started spewing orange water up for a bit before it settled down again.

Last time I checked my anti-freeze, isn't it meant to be green? Something like 80/20 (water/anti-freeze?) Not that I've done it myself, might be putting this problem ahead of a new set of brakes I think :/ Reccon I should send it in tomorrow? Any other troubleshooting tips? Oh! Both thermal fans are running, so the 90+ degree switch must've kicked in, and the radiator on the top wasn't hot to the touch, so that's probably a good sign, it also wouldn't appear to be blocked as liquid went in and out of it :?
