Just wondered if you could tell me the best oil for my 525 tds. Ive done some looking and im still not sure. People are saying 0w 40 and others say 5 30. I know it has to be fully synthetic. Whats my best option. Cars done 214000 miles but had new engine about 70000 ago.

Check what BMW recommend.

I'd sooner run a car on radweld than take oil advice from dumdum

Feck me he aint that bad is he. Beemer says 0w30 but other people are saying 5w 40 cause of the millage. Gonna cost £60 just for the oil so I want to get it right first time.

They are very similar, but I'd agree with 5w40 with the miles, I use it in my vec & that's only on 88k, quietens the engine down too Smile

Castrol only comes in 4 litre cans I think so you'll need 2. Also check it meets the BMW specification.

f*ck you all, my technical knowledge is excellent. Unlike alot of people here I only talk about shit I know about, I do alot of researching myself so I can talk from a position of actual knowledge rather than regurgitating somethin I red on a forum that probably wasn't even correct in the first place.

As for BMW oil I dont know but id suggest whatever bmw recommended. Running a thicker oil could cause issues especially if railways have started getting clogged or the pump is weak. Id guess people recommend the 5 or 10w40 as it's cheaper then try and make up an excuse cos they dont wanna look like tight f*ckers who know nothing about cars. The lump is really strong so give it the oil it wants.

When accelerating hard I get a noise like the exhaust is blowing for a slight second and sometimes get a high piched wistle and I think it down on power. Any ideas as I know knob all about derv burners.
It a 525d e39.

I'd say boost leak, and it's hard to say if it's an easy fix as it completely depends on where it's leaking!

It could just be a clamp that needs tightening but could also be a split boost pipe or vacuum hose.
