Boost compensator question...
#1
I found what seems to be diesel leaking from the connection between the inter-cooler and the fuel pump, poss compensator diaphragm leak? I blocked the pipe and the inter-cooler spigot until I find a replacement boost compensator. The thing is... after a 48 mile round trip today I noticed that the fuel gauge needle didn't move! (I usually get 42 mpg on similar trips) Of course there is the expected loss of power under acceleration but not enough to be a real problem for me, the question is, as you are probably expecting by now, would it cause any problems/damage if I leave it blocked off as I'm not so much a racing driver - more of a tight-wad.
OR... after replacing the dodgy one, would adding a manual boost compensator allow me enough adjustment to keep the boost pressure down to a similar level? I'm really not bothered either way about replacing it as the benefits are obvious, I just don't want to bugger the pump/engine.
Its a '99 (S) 1.9 XUD, Lucas pump.

Had mine bunged up for a while (few months) and didn't come across any problems
