Decided I'm going to whack a belt on the hdi so I can make it to the ea meet, but not sure which one it is.

Car has AC if it helps.
Also how long will it take to do? Guide?

Its the longer one for AC, 6PK1750 on that list.
Takes like 10 mins, inc removing the wheel and arch liner... You just need to push the tensioner with a 15(?)mm spanner, and slip the new belt on....helps if you can have a 2nd person to hold the spanner while you do the belt but I've done it on my own a couple of times now...

Kinda.....lol. Its not fiddly, it's just that theres no space to work with which makes it awkward.

Hmm, I always call 'fiddly' something too small, like tiny screws with gloves on.
The belt is easy enough...if only there wasn't a chassis in the way.

And tied rope round bonnet bracket. Makes it easier then.

(This post was last modified: 01-05-2013, 09:35 PM by Poodle.)
For future reference, says on the item specification - "for models with ac".
Can get one from there or your local motor factors.
EDIT: You guys know there's a locking-off hole on the tensioner right? Don't have to tie it to anything lol, just stick an allen key in the locking hole when the tensioner's pulled back. Helps if you tape it to a long screwdriver or something for better access.
Dec, even for someone neverseenspannersbefore-new to mechanics it won't take more than a couple of hours to do.

A couple of hours?
Even I managed it in less than a quarter of that.....and Decs already done half the job.... Although that may make re routing it tricky, don't you have a haynes dec?

He asked for a guide on how to change an aux belt, i guessed he was pretty new to mechanics and probably also... slower than usual. :p

He's just rebuilt an XUD.....an aux belt should be a doddle lol! It's just getting the route right that may be a pain as the old belt snapped.
Granted it looks dawnting before the first time though....so many pulleys!
Also, I binned a 3 month old belt off the estate....gutted lol. ECP sell them for £16ish and should have them in stock. I did both mine and rowells with conti belts from there.
