i get so far with the car then get so bored with it ive done most of the tuning apart a fmic on it but other than that what else is there
i was thinking the petrol route as the noise is nicer n the higher rev band but also less mpg (the bad bit)
im pondering the thought of what next in the pipe line

well put it this way, 306s wont reallt decrease in value much any more so if you have had a derv, go and buy a perv and if you dont like it, sell up and go back to derv.

Depends on what you call/class a stage 1 xud, you could say mine is a stage 1 xud, it smokes alot but meh.
On the euro trip in my opinon I would say it wasnt that much slower than rockers '6 on the straight, on one stretch of road we both over took a row of cars at the same time and we reached a certain speed. Yes he was pulling away from me but as expected from something with 160bhp but I really wasnt that far behind , and in the alps I could catch him up on the hills.
I would say as a whole a dt is what you want them to be

Stock/standard 6's only out perform tuned XUD/HDi's when it comes to 100 mph+.

But who does that sort of speed anyway? Big Grin

Since no one has actually asked yet what is your diesel running atm power and mods wise? Because if your only running basics then yes I can see why you made the thread if you have gone for a big blower diesel then you shouldn't need to evenpost a thread like this imho

Chippy look at this argument you've caused.

Essentially it's all down to personal preference, do you like a screaming petrol or a diesel with lots of grunt. Do you like something that is good out the box or do you like tuning and finally can you afford to average 20mpg?

A good stage 2 hdi is faster than a standard gti6 and with all the same suspension parts the diesel will be faster as it will be lighter.

A 180bhp diesel will always be faster than a 180bhp petrol as they have alot more torque and a better spread of power across the rev range.

In my opinion get a big turbo slapped on and your laughing to about 170-180 bhp mate

You need to drive or at least go out in both. Until youve been in both, you cannot comment.

With regards to Toms306 he knows nothing, hes just inly ever driven broken, shit cars... All of the cars he's ever had or driven are broken...
