Please don't quote me on this as I'm looking at a poor picture...but bottom pic, it would seem that the water jacket on the far left is starting to go and maybe the oil covered other end? But I guess mainly age Smile

It lives!!

cold wet and cold some more and many cuts n bruises but 20min ago she chugged into life to live another day!

FYI

new HGs for these seem to be upgraded like the rover ones....
originals being a composite of metal and rubber etc...

new ones are just layered metal....hope that does the trick

hmm interesting...not helpful now...but interesting...

I wont be hitting it hard with high boost anyway...and once the coosacks done its going into the 106 hopefully so it wont be working hard in that

there are messurements to take to see if you need to renew...mine were fine

I got a kit on ebay...was £28...seemed good...was missing the vac pump seal though...but came with all I needed other than that

The ports are really small I would have thought that nasty gunky stuff would block them and makes things 10x worse.

Might just be bleeding itself through, keep topping it up and it will probably stop 'using' water after a few journeys.

Im hoping so.

I took it out and it went up to running temp...no issues...only up to 13/14psi...will give it some gentle driving tomorrow

Did you have head skimed?

nah...wasnt needed.
clean it up and used a straight rule and it was spot on.

plus the nearest company to do it was asking more than all the gaskets and fluids put togetheir!

Sorry wrong pic selected as on iPhone lol

The far left water jacket looks warn and suspect, the other end is a hunch but after all I'm looking at a pic so can't be truly sure

That's bad news about the HG mate, I was looking at some stuff in GSF that was 100% guaranteed to re-seal HG's but I can't remember the name..was endorsed by NASCAR driver if that helps?

Right so wasnt skimmed and not pressure tested?

hell no...

If you do all the right checks IMO it isnt needed.

After cleaning the head I used a proper straight rule to check and it was 100%

and a pressure tested head does sod all imo....the pressures they test them at are waaassy too low to show anything up

A pressure test doesnt have to be high pressure its to check for cracks after overheating which from what youve said has happened
Ive seen a few ppl skip this and it go again because heads cracked

And I don't see how a ruler will show if its warped.. head skimming is extremely precise.

Ive seen loads of heads that have failed been pressure tested and come back fine too!

its running ok today...took it to 20psi few times...warm inside, not doing anything wrong except leaking some coolant from the gasket itself...the sellers have said they have never had any problems with them...but they would say that.

guna just throw some kseal in it for now...as said I be ripping it out in few months and going proper mental on it so only gota last till then

lmao

have you ever seen a bad headskim...looks like they used a cheese grater if not done well.

a proper metal straight rule used for the purpose of checking flanges, heads etc is very precise

Haha right so its leaking between the head and the block with a gasket with crushes to the shape of both surfaces so the heads warped

Im amazed a steel rule can see if a heads a thou or 2 out lol

not for certain...could be a crap gasket...

even if it is...bugger all I can do about it now is there!?

I would be having it skimmed when I do a proper build later in year for the 106....need to find a reasonable AND decent engineering company round here to do it though...

anyone know of any, north cotswolds, east gloucestershire way?
