camshaft sensor

Hi guys i have a 2.0 hdi X plate . i had a few problems before with starting issues i thought i had fixed it but last night the camshaft sensor died and wouldnt start . we replaced it and it did it again half a mile down the road. Anybody know what could be causing the sensor to stop working ??

broken wire in the loom from the sensor?

How do you know it's the camshaft sensor?
