Well it finally happened today! I ran out of fuel for the first time! Had been going to uni for the past two days on the red light and finally it cut out! No signs before it did though. No coughing or spluttering just a split second and it cut out.
For anyone who doesnt know its a hdi estate and I got 540miles from a full tank. probably got about 50 miles after the light came on!
Luckily it cut out as I was turning into tesco which has the diesel station I go to. So i coasted for about 40m into the queue and then my mate pushed me the last 10m to the pump!
I left the keys in the ignition on the first turn just to let it prime all the fuel back through and then when I got in after paying it started first time! No airlock! winning!

I'm surprised about your MPG there, have you just been driving around town?

HDi mpg is terrible tbh. Mines just rinsed £40 of diesel in 4 days, I'd be better off with a '6!
I've come close to running out a few times, about 35/40 miles on the red light before having to give in and fill up again lol.

And people moan about common rails and lift pumps....
I've never bled a common rail tbh, done several fuel filter changes and they just prime themselves lol, easy as.

HDi MPG is epic. Vaughan's/my HDi estate had at least 2 people in it, a rear beam, 3 tool kits, 2 jacks (and various other bits) for 600 miles of mixed driving, and didn't even use a full tank. It would have been at least 2 tanks in the 6.

But thats becuase its terrible!! At literally everything!!
It was £40 and ~280 miles, thats not even 45mpg! From a slow old 120bhp estate. Had enough now, it's going soon though you'll be pleased to know. Hate to say it but I'm gonna have to go VAG again I think.

I seriously don't even know how. So at the weekend, I had the car fully loaded at all times with heavy things, and on one 40 quid fill up got 355 miles and on a 30 quid fill up got 271. By heavy stuff I'm talking rear beam, few toolkits, jacks, axle stands etc

I find the HDI is great to start once you have run out of fuel. I did about 30metres downhill from the garage. Give it afew goes to start but not even a splutter. Got some diesel in and it started straight away not even a hickup. They cut the pump off when the pressure drops so even tho theres fuel there it wont try to fire and suck air in. Self bleeding as such

It has absolutely nothing at all to do with the fact my exhaust fell off, the tps can't organise a piss up in a brewery, the maf isn't sure what air is, the rear caliper appears to be made of toffee, both front wheel bearings are now groaning and are hot enough to melt fingers, the clutch resembles a banana skin.....and I've been doing lots of short, fast journeys heavy laden (and I'm talking bits of furniture lol, not a nice light beam and toolkit!).
Nothing at all to affect mpg there.
And tbh I wouldn't blame you for banning me, I can't stop being a trolling lady garden lately for some reason.

But then you can't complain about mpg given those factors, that's like me saying OMG my 6 is so down on power, BUT O WAIT IM RUNNING SQAURE WHEELS

Golfs are wank overpriced pieces of shite. I'd have another if they were sensibly priced, seeingg as I know how to fix everything on them after stripping mine, and I know they're fast and economical....but they're just so overpriced for what they are.
As for 306s, I have an awful habit of choosing familiar things...even if I don't like them. Comforting I guess? I still buy pizza, and every time wonder why I ate it as I don't really like it, and lemon cakes always make me feel ill, I don't even really like them, yet for some reason I still buy and eat them..same with cars, I just get into habits which I can't seem to break (like trolling the forum) and I'm genuinely being serious, it really does my head in, but its like Im obsessively compelled to do these things for some reason!
Truth is I need rid if the HDi (mot in march!) But I'm scared to buy another car as i KNOW whatever I get will be shit and broken and another waste of money. So don't really know what to do..Might just not bother with driving, wish id never learned tbh, turned out to just be a money pit ever since.
