New Computer - Muchos Shiny
#1
So, erm, after my computer or coilovers thread I have actually built my own computer, I speced it all myself. I was going to get Scott to build it with me but after having a pile of shinys turn up on my doorstep today I couldn't resist so just got stuck in.

You know what the scary thing is though, It actually works, first time. Still cant believe it, don't think Scott could either LOL but hes helped me set it up and load some software this evening and I'm just getting to grips with Windows 7.

Its already awesome, I had thought my internet was slow but it turns out my old computer was too slow to cope with it so now I can watch online porn in HD woop.

Scott the sound decided to work when I plugged it in at home and I even dared to go into the BIOS myself as I had to change the boot drive, I've also set the fan to auto not full and turned on fast boot.

So ridiculously proud of myself right now as I was expecting to cock this up massively.

I must admit the layout confused me as well when I first opened it. I was pretty surprised Chris managed to put it all together okay lol

It's pretty quick though, just needs a proper controller for the fans and some more storage (mechanical hdd will be fine!).

Scary TBH, I feel this is a much as an accomplishment as building an engine (OK it was a little easier)

IMO PSU is at the bottom for a lower center of gravity for better handling.

Kinda makes sense though, makes it a great design to use but the case is huge with all the 3.5" bays removed. Ive still got 5 x 2.5" bays to use so theres just no need for all the space. Ive seen these water cooled and that dosent even use all the space.

You only like them cos theyer more ginger than you are.

But yes muchos shiny, was a little bit sad when i had to bend a few fins to make it clear my ram

And the fact it didn't work when you plugged it in and i knew what you'd done wrong i think shocked us both. Think I scared you with my lack of knowledge when I said id got the "black edition" processor cos its an AMD and that's pretty close to AMG who make their fastest Mercedes the "Black Edition"

Defo need a fan controller but I'm running out of USB slots already, I'm tempted to cut an extra 5.25 slot for a disc drive and a few more USB sockets.

Im as shocked as anyone else TBH

Spec for anyone who cares.
Bitfenix Prodigy Mini ITX Case in fire red (included 2x 120mm fans)
500w PSU
ASRock FM2A75M-ITX motherboard
AMD Athlon x4 Quad core 3.4GHz processor
Zalman CPNS9500A heat sink/cooler
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM in "Racing Red"
Samaung 840 series 120mb SSD
Wireless mini keyboard and mouse.

Total for the build was about £450

Planned upgrades
230mm front fan
140mm rear fan
Fan controller
2TB Hard Drive
Water cooling (just to annoy Scott cos it's massive overkill)
Playing with the overclocking facilities of this set up.

So far the CPU hasn't seen over 38*C and the Graphics card hasn't been over 29*C

You know the plates in the back of the case that cover up the expansion slots? You can get USB that go in there and plug into the mobo. Bit easier, and nicer, than hacking up a shiny new case.

EDIT: Scratch that, just looked at the pics, you've only got 2 and both taken up by the gpu.

Yeah Id of loved to. Currently looking at how many fans the MB can control as they are individually tweak able via the BIOS.

If i can get the MB to control fans then I might well get one of the combined DVDRW and USB 5.25 drives.

As big cheeses post ASUS NVIDIA GT640.
Supports up to 4 monitors apparently and TBH I can quite believe it.

It really is tiny. My motherboard box was the same size as the one the graphics card came in.

TBH unless you want to run multiple graphics cards they're actually a good option for limited space. Some of the other mini itx cases are much smaller.

i remember doing that dum dum years ago, mint when it fires up for the 1st time and no dreaded beeps. i went one step further and built a big atx full size server tower up for windows NT4 server to 2003. it was great to see it doing what i wanted it to do. my dad was over the moon to see a setup i had built and setup working really well, plus you can tweak the software too. i have thought about building a new PC for windows 8.
