extend the sockets as much as possible! I used a double depth socket, long extention, screwdriver extention & the short extention!

The only advice I can give is soak the nuts and bolts on the exhaust joints with liberal doses of WD40, Duck oil, GT85 or any other penetrating oil. I would spray them up the day before you plan to take the cat out and then again when you start the job.

Cheers both

Might soak the nuts tomorrow and have a go at it on Sunday.
Will I need any gaskets?

Will I notice much of a difference with the decat? I gutted the cat on my mr2 and the difference was massive, but that's pushing a fair bit more power than the hack lol

Yeah does make a difference. Makes throttle a lot more responsive and more pull

Didnt wait til sunday, fitted it today and what a big difference!

Cat looks original, so probs well stuffed.

Some numpty had previously fitted 2 of the round gaskets off the manifold, one on top of the other Huh
This compressed the springs so much over time that it wouldn't seal with the one gasket in.

Tried desperately to get another but no one had one. Had to botch it with a bit of exhaust paste pushed into the gasket mesh, and used washers to help compress the springs more.

So far so good, no leaks.

Gonna go for a burn in a bit to test it properly

Honestly, quite surprised by the difference. Really didn't expect much but the engine feels much more willing.

I suppose these cats only get replaced if they corrode because they are noy emission tested.
Could well be blocked as f**k for all I know

If it's an original cat, sell it. They're worth a fair bit apparently
Welding and fabrication projects undertaken, contact me for more information.

Can be, i discovered some are only worth £60 lol. Sad

You can get new bolts and springs for the elbow-downpipe connection, only a couple of quid from your motor factors.

The bolts, springs, cup washers and gause gasket are available in a kit from the dealers, part number 179718 £13.24. I bought the kit last week and I still need to fit it.

Cheers both.

Went and got the kit today, but the ring still didn't fit!?!?

I took the original one to Peugeot and it was the same size as one from a 1.9?

Could it have an early turbo or even just an early elbow?

Confused! ?!?

Just about to test it, it better not leak

Also, I think I have found another problem, I think I have a diesel leak from the fuel tank nearest the sill Angry

Which side? Could it be coming from on top of the tank - breathers, lift pump seal, etc - or the filler elbow?

Right by the sill. Its coming off a couple of pipes between it and the tank.

It's not huge, I mean I still got 43mpg round town and caning it, which is fine right?
There is no drip drip drip etc...
It's not even enough to smell unless I get right close to it.

I'll have to monitor it as the tank goes down. I swear it was dry the other day but I could've missed it.

Does look to be coming from the top of the tank

Yeah, the sill on which side..? If it's by pipes i assume it's the off side?

Doesn't sound like it's bad, but if you can trace it now you may as well fix it before it gets worse.
