They weren't based around anything I don't think, just TU fitment. XU is the taller range of petrol engines like GTi6's (XU10J4RS), 205 GTi's (XU7/9) etc

check rovers for bosch pumps, the lda pin in bosch pumps on rover engines has a better shape curve.

just ask around your local scrappys/breakers about bosch pump prices, prices depend on if they know what there worth or not, you could be lucky if your local is clueless and pick up a pump with all the lines and injectors for £30

bosh has the "ufo" shape cap with the lda pin inside, lucas pumps have no distinguishing features, just looks like a bunch of pipes going into a block

if your resorting to scrapyards for a bosch, peugeot 405's are the best to check for bosch pumps as it seems the overwhelmingt majority of 306's in scrappys are phase 2 with lucas units

But make sure it's not a semi-ECU type if it's in a 406. They're quite obvious though.

Just to say, the TUD4 and 5 that are in 106s / Saxon/ axs are based on the TU petrol engines. The TUD5 is the same block as the TU6 gti engine, just with a different head and stroke and pistons obviously. Completely unrelated the the XU series.

The XUD was also fitted to some TATA 4x4 iirc

Samass is right about the TUD4 and TUD5 they are based on the TU petrol lumps

Just like the XUD is based on the XU petrol engines.

People also often get very confused about NA Lucas pumps, people assume that ALL Bosch VE pumps have the UFO on top which is untrue...

^^ For example...
