CV joint gaiter replacement?
#1
Afternoon guys,

Samass pointed out to me earlier that my O/S CV gaiter has decided to lose it's retaining clip, and as such has probably lost most of it's grease. It's not actually split by the looks of it so hopefully the joint is still in fine condition.

Does anyone have experience with replacing the gaiters? As far as I can tell it should be just taking the hub off, getting the caliper out of the way, cutting the old gaiter off and somehow getting a new one on...

Do those kits with the cone device work well?

Cheers guys for any input.

regrease and reseal with a new clip or at a push zip ties

otherwise, hub off, split the cv joint, take the old gaiter off and refit new

or use a stretchy one and you won't have to split the cv

and there are different sizes i think depending on shaft thickness (oor errr)

Pah! Have fun with the one Toby!!

On a less trolling note, I your changing the boot, you might want to consider the 'cone' tool, literally makes the boot slip on like a glove!

really though if it isn't split, just re-grease it and put a new clip on

I hate changing the boots on these all the little annoying rolling pins. In your case repack with grease and get a clip or a thick cable tie.
