Stupid springs
#1
Right got a bit of a problem. lowered my car 60mm and all was well for couple of weeks but now my drivers side is sitting a lot lower on the front. got it on the ramps today and cant see why it should be sat funny. all the links are fine, struts fine, strut tops fine and springs (new Gmax ones) all intact and sat as they should be. its got to the point where full lock to the right is eating my tyre. Am i missing anything that should be checked?

Was thinking that but drivers side looks a lot newer than passengers side lol, had mechanic check it over and said it was all road legal etc.... just wanna make sure i have checked everything before i bite the bullet and buy new struts. I take it either spring will fit either side?

They arent designated to a side but I'm not 100% sure if you can put them in upside down.

Only other thing I could think of, I may be barking up the wrong tree but whenever I fit spring I always make sure the writing is right way up. Just me being odd maybe? lol

Are they brand new? If so, they need time to settle.
Secondly, check tyre pressures; odd pressure can lower one wheel.
Top mount assembled correctly with correct washers etc?

Well checked it all over again and only thing I can see it being it the shock has given up now its been lowered just not showing when there isnt any weight on it so getting new one and top mounts as I may have been a bit heavy handed at tightening one of them up lmao its a good inch and a bit lower btw

Shock has been replaced with a shoddy pattern part in the past and cant handle the uber lows?

Can only really be- top mount put together wrong, check how much thread in poking through the strut is one more than the other?
Or a nackered shock

Ah yer forgot to mention that, they both somehow got loser. the little cup thing ontop of the strut where the bolts sits began to rattle so it looked like the nut had unwound itself if thats makes sense lol. tightened them both up when i noticed it had don it but still sat low. both sides did this just the drivers side was really noticeable. Getting a monroe to replace the driver side one and hopefully the passengers ones wont do the same.

You shoud always replace shocks in pairs as they will wallow over time and the handling will be shit if you just do the one. Guy who had my car before me did 1 rear shock and it handled like a sack of shit.

A set of bilstein B4s is only 100 quid or 140 for all 4. Well worth it IMO.

Have you replaced the nuts with nyloc nuts again?
If not you should do so, it will eliminate this.

Also, do not re-use nylocs. They are not as effective second time round.

mine sits about 10mm lower on the drivers side, before and after lowering. i figured it was just 'one of those things'

It's got to be your strutts. I would also highly favour changing a pair as you might find that one is soggier than the other and throw your handling out! ;-)

its not that nylocs are crap. Once the thread has been cut into them, they dont hold as well second time round, hence falling suspect to being more likely to come loose

Nylocks only come loose if they weren't tight enough to start with tbh.
Custom roll cages/shiny suspension bits/general fabrication work undertaken, PM me.
Top engine mount repair/reinforcement/chocking for cracked chassis and high powered cars, drive in, drive out, 2 hour turnaround.

Just a thought but praps, one of the bumpstops was missing or has been shortened at some point on the side which had a replacement shock? Sometimes very low spring do tend to side on the standard length bumpstops as they'r so low.
