You just cant beat that slow progressive build of a huge turbo, and then it peaking with masses of torque

well... u can... with a vnt. lol. i'm pretty sure i'll be better off with a mechanically actuated vnt than a simple WG turbo. i know i'm not gonna be able to use it to increase engine breaking or anything like that but i'm not too bothered about that. feel free to educate me, but as ive gathered, if its set so that at anything below 1/4 throttle has the vanes fully open, it should be fine for cruising and idle etc, the closing the vanes using a cam of some sort on the linkage and a boost pressure actuator to open the vanes as boost increases. i am aware that this is a very simple version and it will take a fair bit of refining to perfect but this is the basic pronciple i'm going off.
