Go big or go home.
Piggy did point out that I should probably get a stat. So the cooler will be blocked off from air flow for now. Left myself a nice big area for a chunky intercooler too which I'll mount in a similar way in front of the rad.
pics:
Got it mounted snug against the radiator for dem airflow efficiencies. everyone loves eBay
Got my gauge installed too! It's genuine, I've got a whole heap of them. Oil pressure, boost pressure, water temp etc. Just oil temp for now. Not sure where I'm going to put the rest yet.

Just a wee update
I've chosen a turbo I'd like to fit, it's perfect for my target power output. I'm going to get a GT2052V, just china specials. I've had good experiences with cheap turbos so I'll stick with it. The compressor map is ideal.
So I'd be looking at about 140-150hp at 5000rpm and about 80hp mid way up the rev range. In theory this should be nice and progressive.
the GT15 is just out of puff on this engine, it'll get me to 135-140hp but it all happens in the mid range which I don't want - mid range boost is heavy on the rods, it's safer to apply high boost at high rpms.
ALSO I'm going to prep the car to allow it into Road Car sprints. because my new car arrives in a few weeks and this leaves me with a "spare" car
Going to swap out my Lucas DPC pump and fit a 9mm VE pump - this should supply enough fuel for 140hp as Sam has already f*cked about with it so happy days.
Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

Well pictures tell many many words.
They also show wonky brackets, but that's fine.
Just needing to trim that top hose a little bit so it sits at the correct angle!

So here it is, in it's very first form!
Not quite getting enough fuel, the Lucas pump fuel screw won't go in any further so new fuel pump time!

It's been 3 days so far, so lasting longer than the turbo

Celebrating 1 month with no problems!
Still not running full boost though, and my belt has stretched a little bit and slipping at high rpms.
Oil temps seem low... sitting about 70 degrees C but I did only drive 5 miles. However the pressure is bang on where it needs to be according to the PSA book.

low oil temp is unsurprising with such a sizeable oil cooler, a thermostatic takeoff will help that.

Umm yeah it's not fitted at the moment D: because I've moved the standard radiator forwards so it sits in front of the slam panel.
I'll get a picture of where I've put the sensor shortly, I'm not sure if air flow may be affecting the readings?
Couldn't find a pressure gauge the right size, so I've temporarily stuck this one on top with tape. Get it all working first, tidy it up later.

I thought it would be, ideally I'd put it where the sandwich filter was but it's not fitted just now.
went for a drive for a whole hour, gauge keeps reading 60 degrees and when I stop and idle it goes up to 75. Something seems really wrong. Surely I'd not got another dead sensor!?

Thanks man, I'm a bit down on power. trying to find ways to wedge a turbo in there as well. I can't go above 120hp or I'll be out of class.
I think this video demonstrates the noise much better. Filmed the wrong way up but yeah... not my strong point lol
Currently sitting 39th out of 54th

Just bought a safety devices roll cage for it, with the B pillar brace and X door braces
From Muzizzle who is bearking his saxo because he's a Saxperience bender and I'm allowed to say that because he might read this.
So fitting kit I'll order next week and get it all bolted in place!

Just to let everyone know, I'm still alive.
I've changed my charger pulley so it only makes 10psi now instead of 15, 15 was just killing it, over-revving the charger was putting too much drag on the crank and the inlet temps were somewhere around 100 degrees c hahaha
Making a proper induction kit for it too, my 90 degree bend and alloy pipe should arrive this week.
Top tip, don't forget to remove blue roll from your intake before starting.

I'd love to, but I'd definitely use a larger charger. I kinda knew from the start this one wouldn't flow enough.
I think an M62 would be more suited, a large charger turning at a slower speed.
Still not solving my alternator problem. there's no space!

Okay, so things are getting a bit more serial with the car. If anyone has noticed I've been quite quiet, so thought I'd post an update.
I'm going back into sprint racing, but a bit more serious this time.
As I'm using a turbocharger, I'm over 2000cc as 1527cc * 1.7 defined in the 2020 blue book.
I'm also restricted for mods, so entering sports libre = lots more hassle.
Things I have already:
Hispec Billet 4 calipers, needing a refresh with lightly used DS2500 pads.
Full cage is purchased with fitting kit
Fire extinguisher
cut-off switch
huge oil cooler
R888R tyres all round.
things to buy:
Bucket seat
5 or 6 point in date harness.
FHR for my helmet and posts!
fmic Intercooler and pipes
Tacho
Oil/water temp gauge
oil pressure gauge
The actual turbocharger I'm going to use as I've no space for a big super charger.
Things to make:
Aerodynamic devices
Manifold for GT1752/6S
some oil lines
Dash board for instruments.
No idea what I'm going to do with the suspension yet, thinking I should just keep it simple or maybe even standard? I'm running GTi front suspension and the stock diesel axle at the rear. All rounds are at Knockhill so I don't really need the adjustability.
Car is going full strip, even the wiring - thanks to mechanical diesel this is really straight forward.

So anyway, it's been a while and I've gone back to turbo.
Someone sold me their kit, so it's been tried and tested! the inlet is on an interest free loan though, as I don't have a TIG yet
GT1756V turbocharger, and a front mount squintercooler.
Hoping to take it for a small road test before my first race on sunday... if not, it's gonna be an interesting day!

Some of you may recognise this bit of kit:
Bought from Sam last month, and picked up from Jonny in Kendal, because a 400 miles round trip was cheaper than postage! haha.
Here is the 106 that I shall be fitting it to:
Here's the engine I won't be fitting it to:
Reason being, one month after I took this photo, the TUD5B decided to show me how a conrod breaks. So I've got a TUD5 from an M reg in it, only 160,000 on the current engine block. 130,000 on the shell.
That is all
AAAARRGHHHH where's all the photos gone? Was looking forward to some TUD-porn especially the blown up one (how'd that happen by the way, was it still N/A at the time?)
Love how it sounded in the more recent vid with the blower on. Oh and what was the reasoning for going back to snail, reliability or?
Cheers

Ahh yeah I hate it when that happens, not sure if I still have the photos. It was N/A when that rod let go, turbocharged the second time it let go.
Umm, space and packaging was the reason, a larger charger was going to be really hard to fit between the block, radiator and the fuel pump.
I have actually blown the current engine to bits, but I've stripped it down and it's lifted the head bolts.
should have seen the mess on the Knockhill straight! Luckily I only use water in my cooling system so it dried up pretty quick. what a mess though
