Help my misses

She bought a 307 2 days ago from a private seller. Now I e come to look at it, there is oil pissing out the side of the block, but it runs okay. 
There is sludge inside the oil filler cap, which mean hg gone, going, or been replaced and not very well cleaned. 
Now I'm pretty sure she was some sort of grounds to take it back? Return it as it's not fit for purpose? 
She has a receipt for it, unfortunately says sold as seen.

Just wondering if you guys would no what to do, she's just paid out for a car she can't even use and now can't afford repairs as she has no money left now

She was lied to about the oil leak, she's just mentioned it too him and he says he had no idea. Yet the amount of oil it's pissed up and down the road it would be very hard not to notice it!

I'd not contact the seller until you're ready to get it done in one go. Build your case, present them the easy option (refund) or make it clear where you will be going to next if they do not cooperate.

50/50 chance on this one at best? What was the purchase price?

What grounds would she ever have to return a car bought privately with a receipt saying sold as seen?

which engine?

mayo under the cap is not always HG, could be a short run town car oil emulsification buildup from not burning off moisture.

First things first.. where was the advert posted? Get copies of it..  sold as seen means absolutely nothing even in a private sale,  if the advent implies a good runner and it shuts a gear on the way home it's claimable.

You need to be able to prove the car is a total turd and that the advert was a complete lie.

You'll need copies of the advert online and some kind of mechanics or engineers inspection report detailing the faults.

Even then you'll struggle, there's a receipt with her signature on saying she's confirmed she has bought the car sold as seen.

Right so I explained to him the situation. And that he failed to mention hg issues blah blah, reared off loads of jargon about consumer rights act, screen shot some stuff, he is completely ignoring the hg issue.

Then from this, because he deliberately tried to hide the hg, and I proved him wrong it now all settled.

We've just collected £500 cash and get to keep the car. So car cost us £100.
The car will be going up for sale tomorrow at £200 to make back the £100 and to cover insurance swap overs and fuel etc

So I'm happy as f*ck

I've started using an app called Vehicle Smart, type in the reg and make and it will give you all of the m.o.t history on the car and other details, it's free or you can pay for extra options but the m.o.t history shows advisories aswel which is always a good little incling of how the car has been kept over the years if the seller says the age old saying 'sorry have no history' it's all in the app before you even go to see the car [emoji106]

Was thinking this, but don't have the time or the skill to do a HG as the car will need to be gone sharpish so the misses can continue using her parking space, as parking here is awful

You seem pretty certain on HGF, but are there any more symptoms other than a bit of mayo? Ie. it's using water, oil in the water etc..

We drove it for 7 miles and that's it, didn't take note of the levels before the journey unfortunately, will give it a look over today. If it's not HGF then it's still got the chronic oil leak to attend to

if its an 8v then that's very common and one of the easiest engines to do a headgasket on ever.

It about an hour or two's job, really easy.

But, you still end up with a 307. I'd buy new shoes and a thick coat.
Custom roll cages/shiny suspension bits/general fabrication work undertaken, PM me.
Top engine mount repair/reinforcement/chocking for cracked chassis and high powered cars, drive in, drive out, 2 hour turnaround.

Looks like they knew full well it was totally f*cked and 100% took advantage of a lone woman to shift on a f*cked car.

Quick Google shows the 1.4 engine has a shit head gasket design, causing...................... a huge oil leak.
