Advise needed again please. So iv purchased some catcam 109's and wossner pistons, i was wondering about the rods. What sort of revs will the standard rods manage safely for abit of track work, (8k ish) obviously posh rods are about 1k which is out of the question really, but iv seen sets for £200!? Chinese id of thought but has anybody had any run ins with these? I understand you cant put a price on reliability and performance but thats abit of a difference in price. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

If its any help a few xud boys run chinese rods without issues

good rods are £600 up, mine are Farndon.


avoid pec and anything else made in the same factory with a different sticker.


what compression height and pin diameter are your pistons?

what compression ratio and valve clearance?
need a part number? http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ and http://service.citroen.com/ will sort you out.

Your trouble with the chinese rods is that you are the quality control, so long as you're happy checking bore sizes, ovality and tapers. Otherwise you're chancing that they came out spot on off the machine.
Custom roll cages/shiny suspension bits/general fabrication work undertaken, PM me.
Top engine mount repair/reinforcement/chocking for cracked chassis and high powered cars, drive in, drive out, 2 hour turnaround.

Alls iv seen is £200 chinese and i priced cp the other day, uff! £1000. Pistons are 20mm pin with 12.2:1 maybe?? My engine builder says he maybe modify the original rods but he needs to see the piston and rod together, still waiting on pistons, hopefully here tomoz. Not heard of farndon, ill look now.

This is what im worried about. Dont want to be spending good money to only have a rod let go. We'll see! Haha!

if your guy will bush 5he standard rods I'd do that, they're well designed and not too heavy.

with a 20mm pin theres enough meat to bush them as a standard pin is larger, 24mm iirc.

farndon and robson are the same family iirc, mine came in tobson engineering box ordered with carl robson.

they make billet steel cranks for race engines too.

Peak rpm is 8000 power just a shade over 400bhp an I do give it quite a bit of stick! Go on pec website an have a looksy

yeah ive seen loads of pec rods, id stick to o.e or spend a tiny bit more for proper stuff.

I've seen quite a few standard rods modified in engines producing double standard power.

Yeah I understand, thanks pal! Yeah think ill stick with standard rods just put some arp's in at the same time. Billet crank would be awesome, id like shorter fd first tho really and a lsd. Thanks for your time once again!

Had oil chain let go but other than that it's been amazing. Puts s big smile on my face and big black lines on the road. Yeah iv stripped so much out inc heater, spare wheel, rear wiper etc. It's sooooo fast and it's also a true sleeper with dull paint an a couple lol rust spots .

Oil pump chain? Sounds expensive! Got an lsd? Iv still got my heater for what use it is but pretty much everything else is out. You canna beat a sleeper, my mates got a rough bm 323i with a merc v8 charger wedged on, be sick when its done!

We all have our preferences with engine bits, the amount of hassle I have had with Wossner I'd avoid like the plague and the rods would never even get a look in, With 2500 miles of 9000 rpm limit on my engine, saenz rods and JE Pistons came out looking as new as installed

Rich Walker built my engine but component failure on oil pump chain meant we decided to go genuine Peugeot oil pump and chain. Runs super sweet again now

Had mine up to 8k boosted so aye theyre fine. Unless your gonna build a screaming 9k n/a
motor then youl be fine. I know many many cars using pec rods n wossner pistons. And all are far more powerful than anyone on here. Then again it all comes down to your mapping etc.

Tbh miles unless youve made it you always complain.

It will until a lifter pumps up and shoves the valves through a piston. They float at 8k anyway so not much point being up there.
