It is all kinds out of awesome although not magic as some people seem to think their handling is.
It's dead easy to work on and sort of more and less reliable than a 306 at the same time however everything you might want to buy you can get an upgrade version cheaper and easier than OEM ones.





I finally got a new tap adapter so I can use my hose and the Scooby has had her first wash, she looks good but I definitely want it all one colour and looking smart again, that and I think the wheels would look good as a lighter shade of gold.
   





And my alloy rad has turned up so I can hopefully fix my coolant leak. Gotta wait for my silicone hose kit before I can fit it.

As Piggy says mate, If you have to ask how much it costs to run you can't afford it.
I was told that when looking at this one and it's absolutely true.

Fuel economy in 3200 miles I've averaged 24.1mpg with a fair bit of sitting on the motorway at the speed limit, it's gone up a couple of mpg since removing the 3 cats but most people are similar. I'm taking about 1mm of tread off the front tyres every 1500miles.

It is having all the common Subaru problems though, nearside wheel bearing (£80 parts plus 3 hours labor), seized calipers at a hundred quid a go, coolant leaks that take an age to trace and will eat an engine if not kept topped up.

It is awesome though, so awesome you'll find yourself taking the long route to places or just finding excuses to be in it. It is incredibly practical, quiet and really comfortable although just a tad small for me and hugely reliable in many ways, anything thats gone on it has been perfectly OK to drive on for a month or so. It's like a German car but with a soul. If you can afford it buy one but in your head work on it getting 20mpg, anything better is a bonus.

I can definitely afford it, I'm comparing the difference in fun and difference in running costs between one of these and my current daily. In order to know whether or not it is a good idea to purchase it I am estimating the running costs and then deciding whether or not I want to pay that for a more fun daily or spend it on the 306 or elsewhere.

Your fuel cost has been about 670 pounds if fuel is 1.11 a litre for those 3200 miles, whereas my current daily costs approximately 260 pounds for this distance if diesel is also 1.11 a litre.

Thank you for the very kind offer, I've found one I really like very close to work at a dealership so I would probably have the option of test driving that if I wanted to. I think if I went for the test drive I'd probably end up just buying it though!

Think it's actually £720 as it's about £1.20 for V-Power, they love V-Power

They are every bit as good as everyone says they are and they are genuinely comfortable, quiet and practical.

As for the MOT the cats were scrap. It'll be going to a Subaru specialist for the MOT hoping they have a spare system they can fit just for the MOT and remove again afterwards.

We have a customer with one of these. He fits one cat out the three the one thts easiest o get to he says. Passes emissions everyime, id love to be able to run one o these daily.

I'm glad you are enjoying the car Dum Dum.

I currently drive 45ish miles per work day, plus occasional long trips at the weekend but I'm hoping to move closer to work in the not too distant future, I'm trying to decide whether to just lump the fuel costs for a while and then when I only have a short drive/cycle to work it will be okay.

I think it's because I'd be switching cars on my current insurer and they wouldn't typically insure anything like this, plus I'm under 25. My insurance on the fiesta was 300something for the year.

If I started a fresh policy with the right company it'd be cheaper.

Maybe I'll wait until my 25th birthday and get myself a present...!

The Scooby was looking good at FCS, starting to want a set of 18" wheels and a subtle drop (especially at the front end) but I must resist.
   




Today I swapped over to my alloy radiator, the rad itself was a very very good fit and appears to have a reasonable coolant capacity. Only issue was the bolts for the fans were self tapping screws on the plastic rad and needed me to find 5 short M6 bolts for the alloy.
   




The silicone hose kit I bought was not such a good fit, in fact only 3 of the hoses were any use at all, some just didn't fit due to wrong length and slightly wrong bends and others I had no clue what they were trying to be. It's a shame as they appeared to be reasonably well made.
   




Here is the new rad all fitted up with some shiny hoses, no leaks as yet, need to go out for a test drive and check it stays cool, see if there is any improvement, not that the car ever went more than half way up the gauge anyway.

I've replaced the front tyres on the battle bus today, £60 for a pair of part worn Pirelli Cinturato P1 with about 6mm left on them and £20 to get someone to fit the pair.

The difference in grip over the Kumhos that were on there and down to 2-3mm is massive even in the dry, yet another reminder why I only buy top notch tyres these days.

Mate they are about £80 each new plus £10 fitting with 8mm of tread (so 6mm useable) which is £15 a mm

My part worns are tested and free of any damage so there is no issue running them. They were £30 each with 6mm tread plus £10 fitting so 4mm useable tread for £40 which is £10 per mm

I can't see where your issue is.

ive always had this tyre conversation with my boss. he will not buy part worns or anything. howver i will as long as the date stamp isnt 10 years ago and the tyres a in good condition. i mean why not right??

Totally agree, but i get khumo kh17 or something for 22 quid each inc vat for 205/55/16 so no point getting part worns lol
