So I have started doing some research into making a tesla coil. I figure I have over 150meters of 24awg enamelled transformer/coil wire at home, and these things look fun...
It will be a ground up build from nothing and I am procuring the parts slowely..
So far I have:
4 foot of PVC drain pipe
30foot of copper brake pipe (primary coil winding)
ample 24awg enamelled transformer wire (new on a roll for the secondary coil)
various nuts and bolts.
wood
Acrylic base
enthusiasm.
death wish.
What I need:
9kV 30mA (or so) power supply (neon sign, was looking at some but they are all from the US - any ideas?)
a lot of 1500v 0.01uF PP film/foil capacitors
a lot of 10M ohm 0.5w resistors
some fabrication and fiddling..
Should be fun... this will be progressing slowly, when I have time to do it, but there will be occasional updates.

looked at this myself and have backed away as fear of DEATH scares me!
you can get 2KV easy from a microwave transformer you have in the kitchen but dont as its the wrong type of transformer
there is no current limiting on it
unlike the neon transformers
maybe look for High Voltage Anti-Static transformer they have current limiting and produce around 12kv

I intend to have several of them placed strategically around my house so when the allied troops come in can zap them like in red alert!

So should you be posting this on the internet?
Surely this is the sort of thing that attracts the black helicopters/men in suits/battalions of balaclava'd riot police, depending of course on your choice of dystopian authoritarian nightmare, to your house?
