Handbrake not working

Hello my 306 hdi handbrake not working the best now.

Its had new discs, pads and handbrake cables about 2 years ago or more which it needed. I also changed the calipers when I found a good set with seals from the scrap yard back then to the old ones were shot.

I have tried adjusting using the nut by the handbrake it goes tight a few clicks but does not hold.
so the adjusters on the caliper are not working?

The adjusters these on the big rubber boot with a cable tie on?

What's the best way to sort the adjusters on the caliper?

wind the cable right off, pump the pedal (make sure the load compensator is not seized)

if the calipers are free they will self adjust refit and adjust to suit, there shouldn't be any tension on the cables.

I've just done what you said it works like new now thanks.

The car also has much better brakes now also the abs works now on full stops to.

Also followed this advice and passed the MOT today with a brilliant handbrake, better than previous years troubles!

...annoyingly they can't tell me the braking foce numbers to compare, or even the %, you only get that on a fail, the guy said it might've been 150 ish on one side?

yep, a simple mistake many make, the adjuster on the handbrake lever is purely to take up slack, pad adjustment is done by the caliper itself
