Tom gtfo, god forbid any newbies come on and mistakenly think that post-count counts for anything. Go back and retake GSCE maths, how does putting petrol (which is cheaper per litre than derv in the first place) in veg (which is much cheaper than derv) magically make something that's the same price as derv? You know what's shit and stinks? Your filthy VAG! Heh heh...

Aaaanyway, back on topic. Will be starting on the veg myself as soon as i've got time to service the zx, can't wait. 50p a litre saving?! I'll have a bit of that... 8-)

Like the cup thing on the drum to decant the oil ... although I would add bungee cords or rope are a good shout too,

Stick the funnel in the filler cap, hook the rope/bungee over the handle of the funnel and then run it over the car and shut it in the door on the opposite side. Means you don't have to hold the funnel up and can use both hands on the veg oil, as 20 litres is rather heavy!!!

Oh and I know your not meant to do it ... but a splash of engine oil mixed in is good. I believe the veg oil isn't as lubricating as diesel and therefore can wear out your pump quicker (even tho the bosch is pretty much bullet proof). But I'm sure someone will correct me if they think I'm wrong
1st - Diablo 306 1.9 N/A Diesel - Failed Gearbox
2nd - Diablo 306 1.9 N/A Diesel - At 225,000 miles the engine fell out
3rd - Diablo 306 Sedan 1.9 Turbo Diesel - Rust bucket
4th - Cherry Red 306 Sedan 1.9 Turbo Diesel - Crashed 6 days after buying, Bah!

Just buy a bosch, you'll make your money back in no time.

Say it goes for a hundred quid, well i can get £80 of diesel in mine so knock off £25 with a tank of veg and you've made your money back in four tanks. What's that, two months driving? Then it's all profit! Big Grin

Also for pumping veg an electric power steering pump and some hose will work quite well and require no effort.

Ah, now that's an idea, i've got a hydro pas pump sat in the garage, if i clamp that to the barrel and weld a drill bit to the spigot...

Or a manual wind pump and hose will do the same? Like they have in garages to decant oil from oil drums?

Unbolt the pulley, you may find that its 13mm or less and so will go in your chuck.

You do and you dont. It depends on how you drive really, veg has a lower calorific value than diesel so theres less power per liter but id estimate a 10% drop in economy however for 50% less money you cant complain.

ah right cool, thats what id thought id heard, so nice to know my mind isnt making things up!
yeah an overall saving of 40% is pretty spot on...

could you not run with a pond pump? to pump from the tank into the car? does this sound feasable as veg oil is fairly thin it shouldnt clog up Smile any ideas?

Pond pumps are used to pump water so might not cope so well with thicker oil and they run a lot of filters remove them and it might be better
Another trouble is larger pond pumps can be £££

Mine smokes a lot more both on and off boost when running pure veg.

Also notice it doesn't pull as well after 4k.

Guess that's part of the deal when your saving 50p a litre.

Mine actually smokes less on 100 pure veg :-s
But yeah ive always noticed the peformance difference but like you say 99ppl is a lot better than 1.50 at the pumps
