estate vs hatch
#1
I might be looking to buy an estate in the near future and would like to stay with a Peugeot 306 but was wondering if the estate has more leg room for rear passengers and more head room over all? I just find my Xtdt fractionally too small, especially if I have passengers.

Cheers Smile

Go for a 406 estate imo...

Get more toys and more room! Though the extra weight does reduce the acceleration and economy obviously.

I moved from a hatch to an estate. Handles the same but just has capacity for more stuff to fly around the boot when chucking it down a country lane!

Cheers, unless the non sunroof versions would offer more noggin room? Has to be XUD through. My oldest daughter buggers off to uni this year so her knees digging into my back should be solved.
The 406 estate would give plenty of room but my gate posts dont offer alot of room either side of a 306 so I'm not sure it would fit on the drive when I need to work on it.
Its mainly a motorway slogger i'm after that will run on WVO and return good MPG. Not too bothered about toys as they are just extra weight and its good to have a bit of poke on the motorway.

A non sunroof would offer more head room yes, combined with the extra headroom of an estate, would definitely see more gains.

Obviously it will be no wider, just a smidge longer, at 4.34m compared to the 4.03m of the hatch

Only rear head room is different. Wont make a single bit of difference at the front

How so? The roof is higher on an estate, across the length...

If you look at the line along the top of the doors on a hatch, then an estate, the roof on the estate sticks up about 2 inches higher.

Which IIRC is taken up with strengthening bars going side to side unlike the hatch where the bar across the middle is lower and the roof lining is formed to go around it.

So if I go for non sunroof 306 estate it should offer more heed room and obviously mega boot space. Just hope there is a decent XUDt out there Smile

The roofline on the estate is marginally higher only by 20mm though. It doesn't slope away at the back either. I'll go and sit in the back of mine and tell you about head room as im 6ft 4in tall

Id say the estate has a fair bit more head room in an estate, seems alot roomier in mine compared to my 6

I'm about 6ft1 and 100kg and if I wear my hat my head touches the roof which can get annoying on the 40 mile drive to work. If you can fit in the front I'm sure I'll be OK. Smile

Just on Ben jays point of handling the same they pretty much are but in LOOS you really feel the extra weight at the back. They also have really big torsion bars. Mine are bigger than gti6 ones.
