As a seller he wouldn't possibly know the maximum bid that any bidder had entered unless it was him / a friend bidding the item up.
Given that there's still bidding going on and the highest bidder changed since yesterday, it doesn't appear to currently have a £135 bid on it and certainly didn't have one when you got the reply back from him.
Does he mean a (unofficial) reserve meaning that he won't honour any sale below £135? There's clearly no proper reserve on it either.
Personally I'd just bid and if you win see what happens.
