GTi down on power

People were saying the rollers were rolling under? By up to 10bhp. That puts it at just under 160. Should still get more though
Theyre very sensitive to a good full service. Been serviced recently?

Scrap the engine and fit an XUD

Nah the rollers there are spot on. Few lads with stock cars ran for control. CDTi 150 Astra ran 149.5hp. I'd say it's pretty close! It's normally the people that run less than they expect that say it's under ;-)
It's not been serviced in ages yet tbh....

Fair enough. Give it a good sercice. New sparkers making sure they have correct gap
Should help it out
05-02-2012, 03:25 PM
Has it got an induction cone sucking air in from the engine bay, or is it enclosed? That wont help, particularly on the rollers where there's not as much airflow as when driving...
Camtiming could be out; I hear its pretty easy to run them retarded when retiming after a cambelt change. Plugs will make a fair difference too I'd have thought if theyve not been changed in ages... Might be worth gettting the faults read too; lambda could be faulty, causing default rich-running... but thinking about it I'm not sure it'd affect it on WOT...? What fuel were you running it on too?

Erm, answers:
Stock airbox, stock peugeot filter - last change unknown Camtiming, no idea.. not changed it yet. Unknown plugs unknown last change Faults / richness... looks ok - I attached an AFR graph Running on Asda budget petrol

Asda budget fuel won't help either bud, I only use vpower really notice the difference if I have to use murco garage down the road, but yeh give her a full service also change the fpr they are only a few quid

The dyno should be pretty accurate as its a DD.
I dont think thats just a servicing / cheap fuel issue The drop at 6250rpm is just far too obvious across the power, torque and AFR. Im trying to figure out what happens in a GTi6 at 6250 and scratching my head for an answer. Its defo a fueling issue cos it can be seen on the AFR graph so id start with injectors as theyer cheap to get hold of and i cant think of anything else

Defs worth vee-power or similar, it makes a big difference.
Where was peak torque btw? Deffos worth a look at the air filter; that could be restricting it some... Sorry I didn't actually look at either graphs..! Peak torque for the '6 is only 145-odd lbs-ft at 5500rpm, and it makes peak power at 6600 IIRC, so its not down on down on torque, it'll just be down to where it's making it I reckonz Decent plugs will deffos make a difference. Only worth looking at camtiming last of all imo. I did think it looked a bit sluggish on your video the other day... EDIT: Looking at the AFR graph, it seems to be leaning out a bit at higher rpms (the drop on torque & power just past 6000 as Dum mentioned). Defs worth getting the fpr changed I reckons, and might be worth chucking some injector cleaner through it too...

I'm confused? Ed It's getting richer at the top end, not leaner - why is that a "fuelling issue" ?
I wondered whether it might be a knock sensor or something...

Sorry mate, I made the same mistake, Having brain fade today, Brain decided that lower numbers meant leaner  Its probably an air issue then; too hot, too restricted, generally not enough of it Or could it be that its not combusting properly and looks rich? I dont know cos like you Im not an expert with the petrols.

I'm going to say air filter... Or seriously heatsoaked...
Going rich at high RPMs... Typical of a blocked up air filter.
05-02-2012, 06:10 PM
DAmn you Dumdum, I just assumed it was leaner rather than bothering to think about it and actually read the graph!!
Sorry JP, not really helpful! :S Probably as Ruan said in that case; blocked air filter...

as said, change the airfilter and any other service parts that you don't have a record of the last time they were done and then run again.
Serious.

This is my graph if it helps compair ,
Differences are as follows It had just had a full service this included bosch super 4s K&N pannel filter fuel filter oil oil filter also a cat back stainless, so shouldnt make a masive difference

A full service will do wonders for a perv fella, clean filters, oil and new spark plugs etc
If that doesn't help the pull factor then fault code reader and then look deeper When I worked in the garage a few years ago I was amazed at what a good service with quality bits did to high performance engines like a sapphire cossie the smokey old bus that sounds like a tractor...

New plugs are done, as well as an oil change... now it's mis-firing like a bitch at idle! Great.
Ordered some new coilpacks and a new air filter for it. She doesn't even notice it, but it drives me mad! JP

lol, typical woman, doesn't notice even if the engine is chewing itself to bits...!

Give it a proper full service and replace everything then you know what needs doing, going forward the smokey old bus that sounds like a tractor...

^^ There is no leads on a GTi6 Chris.
24-02-2012, 10:00 PM
If the 6 is anything like my s16 they don't have leads just individual coipacks
