Err.. But it is relevant. Smoking slows up your body's healing process! What's your blood sugars like? Diabetics have crap healing too.
Just because someone came in with a cut, does not mean we should comment on just the cut. If your cholesterol or blood sugars are sky high, should it just be left until One suffers a heart attack? heavy smoker, drinker and high body fat - high risk of cardiovascular problems.
It's interesting to see your view, looks like your gp didn't really bother to explain things to you adequately.

I get that too, but the problem is cos I'm pretty muscular underneath is i get to the weight they want I cant get jeans to fit over the muscles in my legs and medium t shirts aren't long enough for my height or wide enough to go across my shoulders.

Padge - I can't say 100% what's wrong until I've been properly diagnosed. But my guess is OCD, social/general anxiety and stress induced IBS.

Yeah it's not great, had problems for several years but been getting progressively worse until now where I'm not really coping at all....guessed it was time to do something about it lol.
Doesn't help that I have to live with other people so I get problems at home as well as out, stuck in a catch 22 situation of needing to move out to get better and able to work again, but not enough money to move out without working. So my aim is to try sorting this before I end up literally stuck in my room 24/7, which probably isn't far away the way I was going.

Thing is, no one needs telling that 20 fags a day, 20-30 pints a week and fry ups are bad for them, I know that, it's rammed down my throat constantly. I'm about 3 stone over what I should be but I can still run around for 80 minutes playing rugby league which is one of the most aerobically intense sports around, and jog up 3 flights of stairs without getting out of breath. I said this to him and he just sneered. Although to be honest looking at me I'd probably sneer too... I'm not sure how I manage it either.
Twatting thing still hasn't healed properly. And to be honest he never mentioned any of that stuff, he just seemed to have the attitude that I'd brought it on myself. He had the same attitude with me when I broke my hand punching someone, never mind that it was self defense. He's a twat, that's why I don't go unless I'm seriously worried about something.

As a GP, you make money for the practice by meeting targets through QOF points. The more people you manage to get off smoking, or reduce their cholesterol by a certain amount - the more money the practice recieves. On their computer, it will even remind them that you are a smoker, and to mention to you to think about quitting / booking in with nurse.
Tbh, as long as they are good at spotting the so called red flag symptoms (i.e. start of cancer) and reffering you on to the specialists, they are doing their job. They know a little bit about everything and not a lot about anything, generally.
Thats a good amount of cardio and exercise you must be getting. Someones weight only ever tells part of the story! Just like someone whos thin can have sky high cholesterol and be pre-diabetic.
Our training now has a lot of emphasis on communication skills. You may have noticed that the younger doctors will focus more on asking you for your concerns and ideas regarding your problem. And possibly even asking you what you are expecting from the consultation. Its a very un-natural thing to do in exams, kind of like obviously checking your mirrors in driving test.
Is your Gp more old school? They tend to be less fussy but more like the Gp you describe.

What have you actually done to your foot?
Yeah he's pretty old school, been my doctor my whole life, think he's about 60, and he was a friend of my grandads because they were from the same part of Ireland. I don't do much cardio or exercise besides the weekly training sessions with the team which is more skills based, only a pub team
I was in great shape when I was younger and played RL seriously, then I shattered my knee (and any hopes of playing pro, I'd had trials with Bradford, Wakefield, Salford and Dewsbury but was hoping for Leeds) and put loads of weight on because I couldn't train for a year and still have issues now, my knee swells after every game, never really lost the weight but I think I have a good fitness base.
I cut my calf on a brick, and it doesn't seem to want to heal, doesn't seem to scab properly. I think it might just be because my legs are uber hairy

That's a shame. Reducing some weight may actually help somewhat with the knee. Easier said than done though, eh! As long as the cut isn't infected, it should heal but take a while if its deep. It's probably the smoking that's prolonging it.

Not quite Tom. I'm not far off qualifying as a Dr. Then I have to choose either the Lala land of GP or hospital dr route. Gp land is actually pretty cushty.
I've done a psychiatry placement last year, and let me tell you - if you observed what I did, you would feel 100x better about your current probs. there are some seriously unwell people about. Even these individuals got better surprisingly. Just need to find the right help and go with it.

Ah ok then! Yeah being a GP seems easy enough tbh, all they seem to do is refer people to real doctors. Well that and order blood tests for everything.
And yeah I know my problems could be a lot worse, I tend to watch a lot of the mental health documentaries, especially the BBC3 ones, and some things really are shocking.
It's more my circumstances that make my issues worse though (which is something doctors obviously can't change), when the family bugger off on holiday and leave me home alone for a week I'm completely different!! Lack of motivation is the other thing I really struggle with, as I don't have any hobbies or anything, means I don't have anything to look forward to or work towards. Just have to grab motivation on the odd occasion I find some and keep it for as long as possible lol. Again, doctors cant give motivation lol.

Its definitely an easier life style, and after doing it for a while - most things patients come in with are routine and have easy to spot patterns. Boring though! And with the nhs and reforms and all that jazz, i wonder how long it will remain cushty. They've already increased training time from 3yrs to 5 now I think (for the better imo). GPs are mini businesses, but when your customers are patients, its a tricky one!
I can see how that must be difficult for you. Is it a psychiatrist you have been referred to?
From my relatively limited exposure to mental health so far, I know they can prescribe SSRIs (anti-depressants) for OCD which can help take the edge off obsessive thoughts. Then of course, you also have the benefit of the med helping your mood directly and indirectly - if you are able to cope better at home with those around you due to the reduced ocd symptoms.
Cbt is supposedly the best long term solution for ocd, helping suffers to deal with the intrusive thoughts and urges.
The bowel has a complex nervous system of its own if you like, as well as being linked to the brain. So with your chronic (long term) stress and anxiety issues, it can obviously royally fk things up. IBS is what they tend to diagnose in people who have bowel problems but without any kind of obvious other problems - coeliacs/crohns etc. Have you been ruled out for other bowel problems?

I don't know what I've been referred to lol. 'Suffolk Wellbeing' apparently. I have referred myself (as asked by the GP) via email and asked firstly for a diagnosis and then CBT or whatever they recommend to follow. They'll ring me back to arrange the first meeting I think... Hopefully I've done that right.
Medication is a difficult one - OCD stops me from allowing myself to risk anything that could make me ill, no matter how small the risk of it actually is - and SSRIs are well known to cause illness to start with. So I can't take them, not just that I don't want to, but that I physically cant, my throat wont allow me to swallow them. I was prescribed some last year when I was just diagnosed just as anxiety by a GP (my own fault, I couldn't explain myself properly as I was panicking and hadn't thought to write it down, which I did this time).
I am expecting (or hoping) CBT to be quite effective, and also ERP (I think) which is the system they used on the OCD programme that I posted up the other day. I had an app't for CBT last year, but due to the travelling distance to town I was such a mess time I got there, I had a major panic attack and froze outside the building and couldn't go in. So I gave up for a year since that lol. Have been told they should be able to meet me at the docs surgery though, which is closer and a bit more doable.
IBS is something I've never been diagnosed with, but I have massive 'evacuations' before going out (yeah every ingle time I go out, school/college/work was a nightmare!) or even at home if I'm doing something stressful like waiting for a courier or trying to cope with a whole weekend of people at home. But not if I'm home alone all day with nothing stressful on - so in my mind it has to be stress related. I've tried avoiding various foods (wheat, dairy, sugar, etc) but nothing has made a noticeable difference. And I can't take a proper food diary because of the frequency of stress causing it means I never know if any food has done it! Oh and I have a massive phobia of needles (as well as most other things lol) so blood tests aren't a possibility either.
Yes I know I'm my own worst enemy!
