Gulf competition 10w40
#1
I've heard this oil recommended a few times and it is what I have run for the last 7000 miles. I was about to order some more and noticed that in the description it says

'While these oils are excellent for motorsport / trackday use, they are not recommended for use in road cars, especially if the car or its engine is still under the manufacturers' warranty.'

Does anyone know why it is not recommended for road cars? Should I be using something else instead?

Thanks

Might be becuae they're designed to lubricate 'best' at higher temps.

I'm sure in a fast/performance car it'll be fine for every day use. Not if your a little old lady popping to the shops once a week

Pretty much the replies I was expecting. If it lubricates better at higher temps then I guess it would be better for my engine if I get other oil? Because 99% of the time my water temp is a steady 83degrees

It could be that the oil is no good for cars that do lots of stop start driving, when the car never really gets up to temperature

Surely 10w-40 will be the same viscosity regardless of who makes it? I cant see why it wouldn't work for road cars.

I do understand it voiding warranty if its not a manufacturer specified oil though.

Its probably more to do with detergents than viscocity.
Doesnt even own a 306.
