Dilemma
#1
So I've got a bit of a dilemma.

I've got a HDi engine ready to go into the Roadster bar getting its ECU unlocked but it has no service history and is on 180,000 miles with no proof of the cam belt or clutch ever being done and Id also like to fit a FMIC and larger turbo while its out as it will cost me more time and money to do all these jobs when the engine is in.

But half the point of fitting the HDi is to save money on fuel, even with getting the train to work and lift sharing I'm still doing about 1000 miles a month and at 28mpg avg this is costing me about £250. With a HDi lump I'd expect at least a third less fuel costs (40mpg) so Id be looking at saving myself £70 a month that could be spent towards modding the car.

The problem is being a home owner I don't entirely have the money to do all the jobs I want so to do what I want would probably take an extra 3 months to save up for. I'm pretty confident I'm gonna do the FMIC at very least as I just need piping for it.

If you can afford it in the long run, get an interest free credit card and do it all now.

Will save you more money in the long run, as you can do all the work now with the engine out.

Makes the most sense to do it all while its out, will save sooooooooo much time and effort in the long run, but if you cant afford it then you cant afford it.
Doesnt even own a 306.

I reckon your main priority is getting the engine in, but the awkward bits need to be done first imo - do the cambelt and clutch then drop it in.

If it takes you 3months to save, you'll only be spending an extra £210...

Then when you think you'll have to go through the extra cost/pain to get anything you want done to it...

£200 quid and easy modding

or 200quid in your pocket, and lots of swearing, cut arms, long nights ouchies and boo boos

The last option
Just stomach the extra fuel for now

Cam belt and clutch, FMIC maybe if you can afford it.

Get the engine in and running properly asap, then with the money you save on fuel you can save for the bigger turbo and stuff.

I agree with this, just to save the swearing envolved in working with feck all room in the bay

Totally get where you lot are coming from and half the vote being for dropping in a ready to rock fire breathing monster is pretty serious so I'm probably gonna go with that.

On ebay looking for the turbo I want at the moment however my FMIC has just turned up and this makes me want to go and fit the engine straight away.

Do it all before you drop it in.

Think how much more awesome it will be when it does go in! ;-)

Not used to this saving up lark and now I have an engine I want it in. Gonna have to do the aux belt anyway as I'm removing the AC from the HDi lump so thankfully no chance of it lunching the cam belt. Good thing too as the aux belt is going.
