so drove 50mile to a funeral today...on/off boost...some A roads, some motorway...85degrees non stop
got to the town and it started to play up...temp moved up to 110/115 few times, both fans on, then down again, then up again.
and the heaters went cold...
I though headgasket but hoped for a airlock
nursed it round...got to an old mates and let it cool and checked for air...was a bit...bit of pressure too...so topped up, rebled...
took for spin and as soon as on boost the temp rose rapidly....
off boost it slowly dropped.
went back to me mates for tea ready for a slooooow journey home...possibly via Green Flag.
Started to gee meself up for a weekend head rebuild...let my OCD go wild on some valve seats etc...but
Just got home...all is well?!
Sat at 85degrees, heaters are toasty, last 10min of journey I got onto some serious boosting and its fine!?!?
duno what to think now?!

Mine does the same. Sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't.
I think it's a head gasket.

as far as Im aware once a head gaskets gone...its gone...
I HATE temp repairs like radweld...but I just need it to last a couple months till I have the 2.1 cossack done then I was going to rebuild it for the 106 anyway...
so not sure to try a headgasket weld fluid repair fluid?!?

Shouldn't really of let it get that hot these engines can warp the heads if allowed to go much passed 100*. Either way, check the usual signs, mayo in oil/water, pressurised top rad pipe, etc.

Piggy - i would rebleed the system as per normal using the bleeder valves etc & put cap on and run for a bit, fans etc. After a few mins Undo cap slowly to release the pressure then leave the cap off over night to let the extra little bit of air surface, due to the design little pockets off air meet up and create a bigger air pocket from my understanding.
Next day undo the bleed valve on the radiator just slightly for water to escape from and redo up tight & top up the expansion bottle if required and the put the rad cap back on

Been there many times, mine only goes to just over 90, but I just wack the blowers on and it comes down.
Have got bored of rebleeding the system over the past few months.

I could have sworn youd said you were a peugeot techy one one of your original threads, as i asked a fellow member and they agreed theyd seen this. Id have thought youd have been a bit more knowledgeable but your threads say otherwise just sayin like

Yeah my early days....but I always question my own knowledge...been a few years since its been my main job....I got very ill with it, boss, injured back etc etc, so have to take things easier now.
Plus he always questioned everything I did....and got angry with me a lot. Best one was when I opened up a head gasket set, and he said I wasnt ready to do it as the headgasket should be fitted as soon as its out the wrapper...or it will go off!?
Plus what happened last year, its given my self esteme a thrashing
Always willing to listen and learn.
I had happily(!) diagnosed it as a head gasket fail last night...all the symptoms...but the drive home completely threw me...hence the thread.

Injured back jesus i do that every week deadlifting over 250kg in the gym then go home and throw a xud block on ma workbench everynow and then lol

Nope, not yorkshire lad!
I started at 16 with a pug specialist, general cars too...left when i was 20 though.
I fell down a flight of stairs when I was 9 then I was a passenger in a big car accident when I was 14.
I often got stuck bent over working on a car. Now spend time each morning stretching to just get up...same during day, same at night so I can sleep. Starting to get me down but I do what I can.
I find it easy to think mechanically too...but never mind asking if peeps dont mind being asked

yeh Im lanky git...difficult cycle...i weigh nothing and have back issues and a SUPER fast metab'....desperate to put weight on but its not easy. Powders have helped but not massively. trying a lot of resistance work to avoid strain, just very slow progress
I have put on 1/2 stone in last year....so now am about 9stone6!!!
Can be an advantage...like when gocarting...but it dont help much else!
Just gone out to the car...
its been 12hours since its been driven...
took rad cap off and there was still pressure in the coolant system....I would have thought thats a nail in the coffin for the headgasket....

yeah but I dont think its only just been like that...and for the system to stay pressurised for 13/14hrs is quite something!
is crap down the back...I cant see what route it even should take!
