6 speed hdi???
#1
has anyone tried to fit a 6 speed to a hdi 306, ive seen i few 406 hdi's as a 6 speed, just wondering if anyone has tried to fit one, the only issue's i can for-see is the engine mount and the n/s/f drive shaft possibly, i will need to change my clutch in about 12 months time and though about how much nicer it would drive...

All the 6-speed hdi boxes are hydro clutch jobbies, would need to do a full conversion to hydraulic.

You could theoretically, but itd be a crazy amount of work and involve some custom fabrication, be miles easier just to do the clutch coversion.

The ML series box doesn't fit in a 306 without modification, requires bits cutting, its not a standard fit by any means!!

There not to bad, need to move the engine fowards on top mount to allow diff to clear the bulkhead and address the clutch problem, shafts fit fine though.

surely a standard 6 box could be modified for longer gearing?
whether or not it could handle the torque is another question

Iirc the 6 box has a longer FD than the hdi one, if not its only marginally shorter.
1st on the 6 box is so long anyway it would probably be undriveable if it was much longer, even on a diesel.

HDi FD is 3.6 where as the 6's FD is 3.95/4.05 depending on the year
